ornstein WTF MAN!!!

Okay...i've tried SEVEN times, all with other phantoms, to beat this guy after killing fatty...it's IMPOSSIBLE at lvl 41...

Any tips? No matter what he always seems to get me (out of humanity now so if ne1 is new the anol bone...plz rate need humanity lol)

First off, are you trying to kill him last just for the soul or do you just want to win?

If soul I'm not to sure how exactly to go about it at 41, I guess Furysword and Eagles with medium/light armor?

If win, kill him first, Super Smough is easier.

Well, If you have about 75 stability on a shield and ~20 end, you can block Smough's attacks. Ornstein is very easy to block. But, Be as mobile as possible. they can't kill you if they can't hit you. Smough can be dodged to the right, his left is where he rests his Hammer which acts like a shield. Ornstein you have to just Kite behind him. For Super Ornstein, rolling sideways dodges most of his attacks, and avoid his Lightning Rod at all costs. Don't block, just 2H and rely on mobility.
(Get some healing iracles to use on the way there so you have max Estus.)

Well, basic strategies: light armor so you can roll, don't care about armor, he hits pretty hard. Don't let him hit you, use the broken pillars to block some of his attacks, and this is also perfect if you have some ranged way to damage him. He is somewhat weak to fire. The crystal halberd you get from a mimic when you arrive in Anor Londo seems do to an OK damage at him, and don't need too much stamina to swing. When he tries to lunge, the best to do is roll between his legs. Phantoms can really help just don't waste too much estus in the first part of the battle, and don't level up too much otherwise you won't be able to summon anyone.

You can get summons all the way up to 55 iirc. 60+ and you start pushing it.

He's definitely not impossible at that level!

In the mean time, if you try again: just stand between his feet and slash at his calves. He's only got a few attacks that can potentially hit you down there, but just learn when to roll, then get right back between his feet, and you'll never get hit.

I always found fireballs to be the best against him...

Lots of fire against ornstein, even if you have fire resin put some on.

And well his attacks are really easy to dodge.. you can also by attacking him very up close dodging out attacking close.. etc you can bait the butt slam which is easy to dodge and counter attack off.

from my experience in this fight doing fatty first you NEED a good ranged attack (magic) for him.

I struggled trying to melee him with 2 co-op buddies until I found a competent caster to come and join me. however for yourself mobility is the key, make sure you have enough endurance regen to be able to roll away quickly and avoid his attacks whilst your buddy is using ranged attacks. hopefully #3 buddy is also up and taking shots at him from behind whilst you are rolling around like a mad tank !!

Doing Super Ornstein just requires a clear head and patience. Until Smough goes down you need to be constantly moving to keep fatty between you and Ornstein (thus using chubbykins as a body shield). Blast away with pyromancy if you can or dash in close when the chance comes to get under his sweeping attacks an cut some bacon off. ALWAYS leave yourself enough stamina for a couple of "oh s" dodge rolls. Nothing more lametacular than gushing out the stamina only to end up taking a big life ending thump.

For jumbo Ornstein you want to keep under his taint and chop at him. His extra size makes most of his attacks hit beyond you. He will occaisionally slash at his feet and jump away. Just roll with him. And when he does his skewer stab at his feet roll behind him or to the side. For the lightning butt bomb you can usually clear it with a single backwards flip with the wood grain ring. For healing barrel roll away, keep that shield in turtle position and get behind a pillar base to flask ( you may have to hammer that Estus button though cause this fight looooves to forget player input). All of this requires stamina mangement. Roll like a spaz and you'll never have the chance to attack without being empty at kill range. Attack like a vengeful Arkham Asylum hero (mash mash toggle mash..../sigh) and you will get fisted.

I basically just keep to medium load (under 50%), choke up on a fast fire weapon or a big effing mamma jamma weapon, whip out the Eagle Shield or upgraded Silver Knight Shield, and spend the next few minutes backing up and straffing ( not rolling) with that shield up. Then when I get a chance I hit twice and go back to evasion until the first a-hole goes down. Then rinse-repeat for the jumbo portion of the fight.

he is like the penetrator from demon's souls he has a hell of a grapple and it hurts like hell

Ornstein = Penetrator with lightning powers and a spear

if you played demon souls and fought the penetrator you know you need to time your rolling right and stay between his legs

Well, I'm fresh off of fighting them solo for the first time (chose NG+, I'm really stupid), and there are a couple of things that I find really helpful. Firstly, Smough is really super weak to lightning, SLB and resin take him out quite quickly. Dodge to the right or towards him on all of his attacks except the charge, roll back for that. For Super Ornstein, DO NOT GET GREEDY. Attack when you are confident you can get a hit without taking one. Use fire if you can, anything but lightning. You can also poison and I assume toxic him, so that's something. Dodge whenever he makes a move, he does his attacks quickly, so it's much better to have wasted a bit of stamina and a chance for an attack than get hit.

TL:DR, Lightning for smough, anything but lightning for Orn, dodge whenever you see him twitch, and don't get greedy with your attacks. Also roll like it's going out of style when super orn jumps up for the lightning butt-slam.

Strange, but I found Ornstein easier to kill than Smough on my first playthrough. I downed him loads of times but then got 'hammered' by Smough. Did it in the end solo. On my second time through, I really needed to get Smough first because I wanted the spear, so I had to summon to do it.

Interesting. I personally prefer downing Orn first because his attacks in super are faster than Smough's.

^Also, he's very easy to stagger in his small form. Depending on your weapon, you can stagger him every 2-3 hits (I think I was staggering him every 3rd with a Falchion--2-handed, of course). Just keep wailing on him, occasionally rolling to avoid Smough, and Ornstein'll go down in no time.
