I don't know about you, but nothing grinds my gears more than when you come across a carelessly placed user generated message. Case in point in the Crystal Cave last night every single invisible pathway was plastered with messages, totally destroying the whole ambiance of the place.

Why? :x

You may think you're being helpful, but all you're doing is robbing your fellow gamers of the opportunity to work things out for themselves, and if you're one of those gamers who doesn't mind their hand being held when playing this game buy a piggin walk-through (or consult this wiki more) for cripes sake! :evil:

In short, don't spoil the game for those of us who have the brain to work things out for ourselves! twisted

I'd love to place messages but I see no point cause they'll only be
swamped by 'Amazing Chest' and other useless/obvious messages.

Shame a negative rating on a message doesn't have an impact on the creator's
character. That might help with this! And messages shouldn't be placeable in some area's.

Invisible Bridges being 1 of them.

Its not really anyones fault. One person probably started by putting a helpful hint, not knowing that other people would try and do the same. You might have just been in a very good server where everything was showing up for you. Plus, if you play the game atleast once, you should know where your gowing without much trouble. Heck, I just run straight across those invisible paths and make it each time, no problem at all. So I think you should be yelling at the server instead of people that were just trying to be nice, and didnt realize how many people would try and do the same thing.

Yes, message pollution has always bothered me too!

You're trying to admire the beautiful vistas, and people have graffitied those orange message everywhere...

But the most annoying are people who place messages right where people stand while waiting for duels. Then I go to bow, and I can't because SOMEONE wrote a message under my feet.

@ Dark Spirit... Good server connection or not it still doesn't excuse dropping a message smack-bang in the middle of an invisible walkway in my mind, when a simple message at the beginning would of easily sufficed. Granted, doing so could lead others to explore areas that they may well of missed, but as a community (which is what we are all supposed to be) we all need to realise that if everyone had the same idea then the end effect can be quite frankly mood destroying for others playing the game, and in so doing give a second thought to what we do ourselves when playing on-line.

@ dianaduh... Where's the fun in that? Why should I, or anyone else for that matter, have to fore go the prospect of being invaded in an area that I've never explored before simply because others are careless with their messaging?

You know what annoys me? when someone puts a message by a lever or something. Like the one that opens the shortcut to the O&S fight.

I'm speed running and instead of pushing the lever I read the message and die.

messages can be anoying many times, but some of them really helped me, tho I believe most of them were NPC messages

"Need curses" at new Londo

"Invisible wall ahead" saved my life at lost izalith, as well it helps you find darkroot bonfire, chaos covenant and the great hollow!

"Be ware of poison" before depths made me go back and buy some moss before entering the area.

I would never find Vamos if I didn't read that "Blacksmith ahead" at the end of the staircase in catacombs

Now, I agree with Blaine and Swordiris, I can't bow because of a stupid "praise the sun" and I lost the count of how many times I died trying to push New Londo ruins elevator lever because of a message

i've honestly never really had a problem with the messages, but i can see why it's annoying, as my uncle pointed out to me when i first was playing through the archives, it's no fun when they just tell you whats going to happen. i have also not been able to bow or something because of a message, but for the most part i ignore them, and just play the game.

I have never had a problem with messages myself, and even if there is one in front of something like a lever, i'm not going to freak out and get mad. That person could simply be warning someone of something or offering a friendly hint. Like I said, if you play the game atleast once, going through areas like the Crystal Caves should be no problem, so you shouldnt have to worry if people put messages. And if your that serious about a game that people putting messages somewhere destroys your mood, than you need to get a life. I honestly dont care what others do in a game, which is also why I am a glitcher, and proud to be one.

I don't get the "Need Humanity" messages. What do they mean? They always seem to have positive ratings on them. I saw one message that said, "try beanpole" right next to Andre, it made it a pain in the *** to talk to him without reading the message.

if i find the guy who keeps putting praise the sun messages right on top of bonfires. im going to hadoken him off a cliff, into a lava pit, filled with poison lava, with 50 hydras. i get it man, the suns cool. NOW LET ME SIT DOWN FOR TWO SECONDS.

Need Humanity messages is when a person is asking to get some Humanity by rating that message positively. I think it's a shame that people don't rate these messages up because half of those people are folks like me trying to get some humanity so I can call in some help or something.

I dont mind the invisible bridge thing, as most either know by now, summon help to lead them, or lace prism stones anyway which are basically serving the same purposes as messages.

But when you tag the "action" spots i.e. what this user above was saying i absolutely HATE that. WE KNOW there is a lever right in front of us, or a bonfire in plain view. We are not brain dead. But the user tagging the Fog doors must be brain dead because instead of walking through Im toggling 3 or 4 messages to get to my fight....

Depriving yourself of PvP and jolly co-operation just because of some graffiti is a pretty extreme solution...

I would like an option to turn messages off, though. Or some simple gameplay-integrated solution, like: if you don't have the orange soapstone in your inventory, you can't see messages.
