You'd need an online play item. A WSS, RSS, Gravelord/Dragon sign, Blue Orb, Red Orb/Cracked Orbs, Cat Covenant Ring summoning will all do the trick.

so i have to summon the player i want to trade with?! i only have the red orb/cracked orb !!! it's a bit confusing hehe

You can be summoned, you can host, you can invade, etc...
Ultimately, mode of transportation does not matter. All that matters is that 2 or more players come in contact in a host world.
