Ideal Divine Weapon before going into Catacombs?

As per topic... What do you think? I want to upgrade something to Divine +5 (Already got ember and given to GBS @ AL) but not sure what weapon I should be picking for this. I have a Str/Pyro build with literally no dex/int/faith, 30end/30vit/ nearly30 strenght.

This wont be my main weapon, just my Cata weapon, so ... Any ideas much appreciated

I usually make a Greatsword/zweihander +10 divine, it knocks down the big skeletons and skeledogs that you'll later be fighting and one shots the normal skeles even at +5. You could just downgrade the occult club you get for free at anor londo and use that which kills them in 2 hits if you two hand it and 3 if you don't.

Does anyone know whether the "blunt" weapons (Hammers, Maces, Morning Stars...) will be more effective or is Divine enough? (You can tell its NG for me can't you.. )

Essentially you want a bashing type weapon, like a club or mace as they are indeed more effective against skellies. They 'stun' them more by smashing them to bits, then you thwack them as they reform. You can get through with a divine broken sword if you like, but a bashing weapon makes it much faster.

hmm, since you have plenty of str check out if straightsword of astoria would cut it in terms of damage. This way you dont waste money on upgrade materials, etc. By the way do you need any items from catacombs, or you just want to go for the boss? since you're on ng+

Honestly for first playthrough the divine club +5 (downgrade occult club) is perfect for catacombs, just run through backstabbing all the skellies and you'll have no trouble.

I think Ive got my pick now. Great Club from Blighttown, Im happy to upgrade and waste some mats, believe it or not I like farming ores anyway so should be ok. Also I think there's an achievement/trophy that requires you to max out Divine.

Im NG, not NG+ so this will be my first time in the Catacombs, that's pretty much all I've got left though... Catacombs, ToG, then 2 more Lords and KotFF.

I am not looking forward to finishing the game But I do love it.

HI Gowardo, I´m at the end of my first playthrough as well and I completed Cat and later ToG with a Divine Zwei +9. Be careful to pick up the white titanite slab in the tunnel before you enter the last boss in order to max out Divine and get your trophy though. And beware of those skellydawgs! they eat your stamina in no time.....

The skelly dogs are easily one-shotted with chaos fireball and a fairly upgraded flame, plus you can lock on to them without getting aggro. And if my memory serves me right 4 chaos fireballs are enough for the dogs you will meet between the bonfires, so you will not run-out of ammo easily. But you dont need divine weapon in totg since nothing respawns in there, except if you want to use it for the divine bonus ofcourse.

good point. I thought they respawn without divine weapon as well. On next playthrough I will try fire weapon.

It seems easier to just run past the skeletons and backstab the necromancers than it is to make a divine weapon, but thats just what I do.

go with the halberd if you didnt get the gargoyle halberd, they have awesome range and make it into fire or chaos after, its gonna make the game easier, specially in the duke's archives.

As Im a total noob, I did the areas all screwed up, and actually already cleared the archives... Catacombs and tomb are pretty much all that ive got left, and 2 more lords. But thanks for your advice anyway!

I know what you mean, but I tend to like the atmosphere of it. I take my time and really go around corners, if I can use a particular weapon I build it, just for the sake of it, and use it... You know

I used a divine halberd+3 I think and I was only SL 25 appx. and freaking owned everything it had to throw at me. It has awesome reach and great damage even though I don't even scale Faith.

Cant wait to go home and play!

When I did the Catacombs, I just picked a random weapon and put it at +5 Divine. Ended with a +5 Divine Battle Axe because I liked the riposte animation, felt a little like Mortal Kombat. "Finish Him!", "Fatality!"
