    Parry-Riposte milestone Empty Parry-Riposte milestone

    Post by Kirk-Barb Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:03 pm

Well I finally got up the nerve to try it in PVP. I've been practicing on NPCs.. and practicing.. and practicing. I kept practicing even after I could do it unerringly against axe, sword and spear. Mostly to build up my confidence that I could pull it off in PVP.

I'm lvl 12, basic warrior armor +6, long sword and heater shield +10. I'm hosting in the undead burg, helping those in need in killing the taurus demon and fending off griefers. I get invaded by a toon in partial enchanter armor armed with electric shontel and shield. How did I know it was electric. I had seen the guy kill a host as I was just showing up to help. He had then used it on me as I spawned in and killed me in one hit before the host had completely died out. Ouch! So I knew my choices were try and block...die, miss a parry... die, or get a parry and have a shot at victory. We square off and he begins beckoning me with a gesture to come closer. I know better, and instead hit him with a fire bomb. That motivates him and he charges towards me. He knows and I know that any mutual simultaneous hits are in his favor. I need about 10 to 15 hits to kill him. He only needs one at the most two to kill me. I know he will come in swinging. I hold my shield up in block position and resist the temptation to spam parry, because I don't want to tip him off. Just as he reaches his attack range I go for the parry. My first attempt whiffs...... to early, but my second catches perfect and like clockwork the riposte follows. As a loud....YES!!!!!.... echos about the house, I watch as his form flops about the floor and find that I did not kill him. He will be getting back up. Now what? Back off, try to get the two or three more hits needed to kill him from a distance... or go for the throat as I'm sure a two hit combo should do it as well. I figure he would try to ninja flip away to regroup so I go for the throat. Instead he comes off the floor swinging and we exchange hits with me dying and him still standing with a health bar that looked empty, but wasn't.

Not the way I wanted it to end, but the ice is now broken and I will be doing the parry/riposte a little more often in PVP. Who knows, maybe I'll get a backstab worked in there as well. 👽

Actually, I think the first time you get two back-to-back parries to 2-shot someone is the best.

I felt like SUCH a badass when I did that.

Yet to successfully complete a parry in PVP, too nervous, I just pick up my GS and power through most of the time.

Would be nice to be able to do it though, maybe I'll grab a buddy and start a fist fight in the forest or something.

Back to back blinds. Or wake-up parry someone trying to chain you. WIN.

Actually, I parried him, and then parried him when he tried to come out of the riposte swinging.

Needless to say, I chose to end the evening after that to end it on a high note.

Haha. I did the same thing. I've only gotten two consecutive blinds on the same player once, but I got three in a row on a ganker group once. Rode that high for a week.

Oh, I can imagine. I almost felt bad since the guy I did it to was by no means a forest farmer (solo host), but since he complimented me and sent a friend request due to my "badass street fighter look" I didn't feel TOO bad happy

Nothing like a "you're the bomb" message after going into beastmode. Haha.

Please put the Iron Bracelets on, adds to the bad *** look and adds defense + Poise!

@OP I like the story was a good read. Thank fully for me my first succesful Riposte resulted in a victory.

Hmmmm... your comments have really gotten me to thinking. Maybe I should bend my only Undead Burg and Fire link equipment build toon to include the hornets ring. It would be easy enough to get and the next time would be my foes last time.twisted Of course I could stay the course and just go for a double and then I'll have something to post in the future.

Shkar: I agree with Federally, do the iron bracers. Retro 80's herk fighter look. Think Hercules, Conan, and even the greatest herk fighter of them all....He-Man! Parry-Riposte milestone 4205493335

I guess that's the difference between him and Leonard Axehands. Leonard had no issues pulling them off his stinking corpse.

Nah, Rocky is just a devilish rogues who surprises unsuspecting forest invaders with unusual tactics (and his fists).

You're not one of those guys who pretends he wants a fist fight then parries and pulls out his hidden bandit knife to Riposte are you?

Hearing that "Donggg!" noise in pvp will either make you jump for joy or make you heart sink.

And congrats, parries are so much fun, never gets old.
