First im gonna start off with co-oping for experianced players (players that do it for fun more than anything) Its good to have 4 sl characters for co-op.

Sl 20: Great for helping people with the very first boss as well as the bell gargoyal and everything from there up to the gaping dragon. (quelag is an option too but not recommended.) The moonlight butterfly is an option aswell.

Sl 40: Great for helping people with everything from quelaag to the o&s team.

Sl:60: great for everything from o&s to wolf sif and all bosses leading up to the "main bosses" that give you souls for the lord vessel.

Sl 80: This is great for Nito the 4 kings and the rest of the main bosses that give you a soul for the lord vessel and can also be used to co-op at the kilin.

Sound like alot of work? making 4 characters dedicated to co-oping in dedicated areas? well it is lol.

I Was only meaning to make this thread based on what i said above but ive noticed some issues that both new and experienced players are having with the co-op aspects of things so im gonna make a list of frequent problems and have an answer for them (hopefully)
Fun tip: You can place your white summon stone when your both dead (hollowed) or alive.

    1. Q. Why cant i see my friends summon sign? (vise versa)
A: First of all do you look like a person or a rotting corpse? (Are you in body form or hollowed form) you can only summon others when your in your body form (non-rotted) and you must be within 10 sl (soul levels) Of your friend. And be sure to get him/her to place their sign in a discrete location where people more than likely wont see it and only you two know about it. And lastly you have to be patient, somtimes it can take anywhere from 5-20 mins for a friends summon sign to cycle through the servers into yours. But no worrys once you summon em co-op with a pal is a blast.

    2. Q. I'm stuck on a boss and im trying to get summoned so i can grind to level up to beat him myself, but nobody is summoning me any reason for this?

A: There can be a few reasons for your lack of summoning. A good tip is to place it as close to the bonfire as possible. Some areas dont allow you to place your sign near the bonfire but dont panic just keep going towards the boss area until you can place your sign because if its placed right in the middle of the road on the way to the boss area then you shouldent have much problem being summond. Placing it right before the boss gate (fog) works aswell as long as you can get there without dying. Using your humanity is a good option too and reverse your hollowing because after you leave the bonfire area pay close attention where you find summon sigh hot spots (clutter of summon signs in one area) and then you will know some good open places where people useually go to summon. If you tried all the above and still no summon remember that you have to somtimes wait a little while (5-10 mins) to be summoned.
and if you still cant cant get summoned then maybe your too far into the game (your on a boss or area that you shouldent be at yet). This may be the case, try return to another area where you recently beat a boss and try co-oping there.

    3. Q.Why cant i use my flask's when im summoned?

A: for the question of "why" im not sure but you can only be healed when the summoner uses his/her flask's.

    4. Q. How can i generally get better at helping others?

A: Like i said in the previous question, you cannot use your flask's. So its highly recommended that you use a healing spell (requires 12 faith to use the spell "heal") Because remember your job as a phantom is to keep the host alive, not the other way around. You can also find a talisman at the fire link shrine under the elivater shaft. You can also buy miricles including heal at petrus hes also located in the fire link shrine.
You may say "but my weapon doesent do much damage, whats the use of me being here?" For as bad as this may sound but you can always be the distraction chicken while your team beats on the enemy from the back. And if you need a certain upgrade item or whatever dont be afraid to send the host amsg asking them if they have any titinite to spare, people are more than happy to help you out in dark souls. And remember that the host is the priority. If your both almost dead you got to be the one taking the risks because if the host dies and you dont then you still fail anyway so be the hero and keep his arse alive.

Feel free to ask anything you guys want or suggest things that i can add to the list, i just wanted to make this thread for fun. Hopefully this helps a person ot two... Thanks for reading and forgive my 3rd grade grammar.

I've built my SL10, 25, and 68 guys to co-op and I've found that all of them at lower levels can help against any boss.

There does appear, to me anyway, a dead zone where I can never find (or offer) help: SL40.

If you're having trouble, upgrade your armor and weapons. Choice of armor makes a huge difference, too. Pay attention to the defense stats. If the boss uses curse, choose curse resistance armor. Same with lightning, poison, or fire. Nothing for water, but use the Rusty ring for the hydras.

But none of your builds that you mentioned are sl 25? i have a Tarkus build thats sl 25 and i only put my stats into str so that he can equip his stuff properly and i had to use havels ring so he could actually move lol. And with that build im able to help people from the bell gargoyals to sens. (sl 40 build recomended for sens) but you say that when your sl 40 you can almost never get help or help others? could you further explaine?

I don't know your build, but if you only boosted strength, you may lack stamina. I think stamina increases your equipment burden. I believe in being mobile to evade hits. The Dark Wood Ring would be worth getting.

My SL25 guy can help anyone anywhere because he's at Gwyn. It might be time to start NG+ with him.

Nice thread. The wiki also has a pretty well developed coop summoning guide:

    http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Guide+to+Co-operative+Play

I have multiple coop characters myself, and really enjoy this aspect of the game. Having different level characters in different spots lets you quickly jump around the game until you find the current hotspots, and ensures you never get bored with an area. The ones I like on PS3 are:

sl20 - Easy summons in both Burg and Parish.

sl35 - Very easy summons for both Blighttown and the Depths

sl50 - Sweetspot for Anor Londo (although you can go up to sl60) and can also work in Sen's.

sl70 - Great for Duke's Archives, can also work in Painted world.

You can also get summoned pretty often in Catacombs/Tomb anywhere from sl20 up to like sl80. I had a sl60 in the Catacombs a few days ago and the summons were constant, every 1-2 minutes from the first bonfire. With the patches the summoning range seems to have expanded to something like 10 levels plus another 15% of the host's, so the ranges overall have gotten wider.

A few other tips: always place your sign with your back to a wall so you can't be BS'd when you appear. Also try to have an AOE spell ready, I usually have WOG set if and when I appear in the middle of a PvP battle (particularly in Anor Londo). I also drop my sign again if more than 5 minutes go by without a call, as that can move you into a new batch of players and increase your odds. Finally, if you just can't seem to get summoned, there is a weird hiccup sometimes where anyone trying to summon you will get a fail msg, but you don't see anything. This is true even if you are seeing other online features while waiting, like red player messages appearing on the ground, ghosts, etc. So if you go a really long time w/o getting summoned even if you are re-dropping your sign, quitting and reloading the game should reset it. Have fun out there and praise the sun!

Since the knights are primarily a co-op group you mind if I put a link to this in my thread?
