I've had characters all across the board. I just never understood why 120 seems to be the acceptable level for organized pvp. Whats the scoop?

Re: Why SL:120?
Because it's high enough for a good variety of builds, low enough for making them interesting. Also this was the cap for Demon's Souls PvP. Why 120? I really don't know what other parameters are involved in it...

Re: Why SL:120?
120 is a standby from DeS. It is also a reasonable SL to start at for a variety of reasons. First, it forces you to select a style of play. You have to make sacrifices. It makes you use every soul level to the fullest extent. So, you need to know weapon bonuses and when diminishing returns kick in. It also isn't too constricting. For example, you can maximize several stats (i.e. get to the diminishing returns cutoff). After doing several 120 builds, I can't see a reason to go much higher.
One thing that is cool about sacrifices, is to figure out what your opponent sacrificed. For example, you see someone using TCC to CMW their Mura. Well, Mura's have a high strength required as well as the 40 Dex to max it out. Combine that with a high Int needed to use the TCC effectively. Now, just based on those 2 things, you know they sacrificed vitality. There are many other examples, but it is kinda cool to figure out what your opponent's weaknesses in their build are.

Re: Why SL:120?
I rather doubt the developers were expecting the level 120 player enforced cap....

Re: Why SL:120?
in the end its up to you if you wanna cap your build at whatever sl you want. sl 120 is just the sl most serious pvp'ers agreed upon.

I would also prefer SL99. On top of being classic... it's classy!RantFromRant wrote:i would actually prefer sl 99, its classic.
Seriously though, I find with the severe way the diminishing returns kick in, that 120 is too high. You can easily "max out" plenty of stats, at 120. My favorite builds are lower, SL30, 50, and 80. 99 would be a good cutoff, I think.

I like SL 80 for making pure stat builds.

Re: Why SL:120?
I guess I meant why 120 as in its really high. My favorite character to pvp on right now is SL 70. I just see less creativity the higher the SL gets. I've considered going up to 80 or 90 but I would just be trying to spend unwanted points above that.

we should start a sl 99 fight club but i think it would just be the two of us, sl 120 is kinda high, specially with those buff builds which is what people started doing because there was nothing else to do with the extra points. but with sl 99 as the cap most people would just do vit/end builds and we would see a lot of giant's, mof with lightning rapiers lol.

Re: Why SL:120?
I think SL 80 would be better than 99. That way you you get to see people sacrificing 40's for a 20 in something else.

Re: Why SL:120?
That might be problematic, since it's already a high-traffic area.techno_viking wrote:SL 99 UD burg, lets do it!
There's this spot I've been dueling in with my friend... It might sound kind of dumb, but it's right in front of the door to The Depths, in the Lower Undead Burg. It's a bit strange because it's a long, narrow corridor, but the stairs can be used for some hilarious impromptu plunging attacks! Also, you can get there without killing the Taurus Demon, so you can keep the Burg open to host regular PvP. You just need to take a neat little shortcut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBo7a3njLE4. Only downside is the host can't beat Capra, so he doesn't have access to the Large Ember.
(Btw, if we're really considering a lower-level FC, I suggest we make some rules on Pyro. I won't explain this at length because I think it's pretty obvious, but a fully-upgraded pyro glove is just overkill for low-levels, FC included.)

Re: Why SL:120?
I think we should make up our own "scaling" for it. Say: for every level you put into the glove, you must level Res 1 point. That way it would be tied to some stat, and be reflected in your SL80 or 99 or whatever build. This way, you could have your fully upgraded glove, but you'd need to spend 20 points in Res!

See, From thinks of everything--they didn't give us a useless stat, they gave us one to do what we want with for our meta-game purposes!

Lower level FC sounds great. 120 is just too high
