    i couldnt bring myself to stop playing dark souls online so i decided i would make a patches cosplay character and co-op at every boss of the game as i make my way through my possible last playthrough until dlc.

    I noticed that SOOOO many people use maxxed out elemental weapons in the starting areas and it is so annoying/boring. imagine if you just got the game never played demons souls and you're having trouble with the first boss so you decide to summon someone, and they just 1shot everything in site. that does not sound fun. Ive been using a +3 raw winged spear and that seems a little op at times but its pretty perfect for the first areas, you dont kill everything in 1 hit.

    i am even co oping in my own world just for fun and it takes a while of booting people out of my game until i find someone using equipment that wasnt obviously bb glitched. i have actually gotten tons of hate mail because i kick out people using elemental weapons. and after i explain they are still pissed lol.

    what do you all think? i think we should try and set example so new players dont get the fun sucked out of the game.

    yea some phantoms need to understand help the host not dominate the entire lvl like they're awesome lol

    heres the patches build so far if anyone cared. i added a bandits knife in left and a crossbow in right as alt weapons, i thought they seemed fitting to his character.

    i hear you dude, i never summon anyone with a clay or zwei or armor that you get later on the game. the first thing i do whenever i start a new game i always go to the catacombs with no devine weapon, going throught he catacombs with an sl4 cleric is so awesome and fun, you get tons of goodies and the rite or kindling. the catacombs and the tomb of the giants are my fave areas in the game.

    yea i do the same rant so i can get a fire weapon so i can defend against invaders, i go to blighttown first via back enterance to get some green shards. my point is more those weapons are just way to powerful for the early bosses.

    its really fun making your way through the levels and fighting the bosses with +5 or under equipment and a summon. i used to give elemental weapons to noobs in the burg but now i realize i just made the game way to easy and most likely not anywhere near as fun as i had the first time playing. i kinda feel bad i ruined peoples experience with the game even if they didnt realize it.

    I don't have much respect for elemental gear, since it's almost universally used as a trolling tool by low level darkwraiths... especially lightning.


    EDIT: I'm also a bit confused about why this got me Repped down... but I've been being a jerk tonight, so I suppose I deserve it, even if not for that particular post.

    in the lord areas alone is where elemntal weapons should become common... but divine and magic paths work well for starter areas! hmm... the issue wouldn't be so bad if more armors had lightning defense but...

    It's not that I dislike co-op... but I've completed every one of my 25+ (I lost count by now... but it's at least that many) playthroughs solo. The first ones, when I was learning the game, were the most fun, and I can't imagine having done them with 2 1-shotting phantoms by my side the whole time--that would have completely ruined the whole game. There's nothing like the first playthrough of Dark Souls (and Demon's), and to have it ruined by summoning phantoms to make it a cakewalk... these people don't even understand what they're missing out on. Worst part is: you can never get back your first playhrough. Once you've done it, every following playthrough is never the same.

    (Edit: lol, every following playthrough is exactly the same--that's why it's bad to ruin the first! You know what's coming, so you forever missed out on the thrill of the unknown in the first playthrough. That's what I meant... but you understood!)

    I pity people who ruin the game for themselves by summoning OP phantoms.

    As for the phantoms themselves... It's a tricky question. Do you use base gear? What if the host expects you to 1-shot everything, then you get hate-mail... And if you're using base gear and you get invaded by a griefer? I'd say have multiple loadouts (base, mid, and max), but that's tricky too.

    I completely agree with everything Blaine posted.

    Personally, if I'm doing early area coop I make sure to use only the weapons and armor available up to that point in the game. I'd keep an elemental weapon as back-up for the occasional griefer of course, but I'd never use it on a boss or the mobs.

    There really isn't anything more fun than going through the parish from the start with nothing but a weapon upgraded to less than +5 with a host.

    Basically I'm saying that elemental weapons are not cool to use in early-game coop.

    i just had so much fun in the depths tonight with my sl15 patches build. i got a fair amount of people to summon me and we would leave the channeler alive. getting off the tail is tuff because i have a spear and it takes almost 10 hits or more. I always cut the tail off really fast with a more powerful weapon but when you dont that thing *** you up, it swings it and even with the eagle shield it drains my stamina and takes a huge chunk of health.

    the boss in that area buffed by the channeler is fun as hell to fight like that. i leveled up to 20 and am down in blighttown now but im taking a break tonight. All the people who summoned me had below normal gear for those areas so the fights took about 4min. we got invaded and the invader had a lightning weapon but 3 people with +5 or under normal gear vs an invader with the best stuff they can carry is a somewhat fair fight.

    When I'm helping, I usually have my good gear in the other 2 slots. When a phantom invades, I switch right over to it, and one/two shot the invader with an Avalon and Max level Great Combustion. I've had a few hosts later PM me asking why I didn't use that stuff for the boss, I always tell them "You didn't really want me to."

    I had my first fight with the Gargoyles ruined... and I just had my first ever real fight with them today. That boss is insanely hard with only a +2 Balder Side Sword.

    i was going to have an elemental weapon to switch to but i decided against it. if an invader kills us and i wasnt able to stop them with my low lvl gear then i just send the host a message saying ill give them a humanity and lets try again.

    i think besides FC this is what im going to try and do in dark souls. just the few people i helped through those early bosses had a much better experience(i do agree solo is best first time) then if they summoned someone with elemental weapons.

    I remember waiting to get summoned by a friend in Darkroot Gardens once, but I was using my Darkwraith toon and I only carried powerful gear on him. Was summoned by a random, decided I'd rush through the area with him so I can place my sign back down asap, but he summoned another phantom. That's when I crystalled out. He messaged me to ask why I left, and I explained I was trying to play with a friend, that he didn't need 2 phantoms for that area, and that I would have completely ruined the fun for him. He understood!

    Now I keep a scimitar +5 in my inventory for low level co-op. I had intended to use it for when I invade real newbies, but I'm not sure I will. For those people, it's almost more of a kindness to make it quick. And I always fight these people in a way that they can learn from it. I don't just run up to them, backstab them, and call it a victory. I'll walk up, kill their phantoms, dodge whatever they try to hit me with for a while, then I'll parry them. Wasn't really any way they could kill me, but I like to think I at least showed them what they could be capable of. And using starting gear wouldn't give them any more of a fighting chance anyway. I killed someone just by rolling into him once, was the worst thing I've done as an invader! Also I always crystal out if I invade the same newb again (after I've killed his phantoms!).

    i do think that the bosses should get additional health for every summon you have. i mean a good chunk of health i think it already does this but i can hardly even notice. when i played demons souls and summoned someone i noticed the bosses seemed to get a huge hp boost, idk maybe im wrong but it just seemed more noticeable in demons souls and co op also seemed a bit more fun.

    it does this for npc summons as is, or at least for the 4 kings, and the boost becomes really noticeable in ng+ to the point where its better to solo rather than summon beatrice.
