A Quick Word on Griefing. Empty A Quick Word on Griefing.

    Post by ErrJon6661 Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:27 pm

I've finally built my n00bTamer. For the last few hours I've been invading in the parish at sl5. I've been using pharis's hat, and hollow warrior leggings. Then the notched whip +5 and plank shield, with two +15 claws in case I ran into someone with high level gear.

What I've found however is that invading at these low level you don't run into low level players starting out. Over the last 40 or so invasions I've ran into maybe 2 players that had starting gear, and I'm pretty sure they had just bought the game because they didn't know how to use lock on.

Most of the players I ran into were gravelords with lightning katana's or lightning bandits knives.

I've ran into guys who camp out by the bonfire and jumped me with twop and wog.

A few players were farming with their sunbro's.

Even when I used my claws at +5 lightning I couldn't touch half the guys that I invaded here.

One guy was just chilling out with full giants, mask of father and a fire/chaos estoc.

All in all my opinion on griefing has changed. It doesn't hurt low level players. Out of 40 invasions I saw maybe two players who were legitimately new.

I'm a little confused here. Why would someone with powerful end game gear hang around in the Parish. New people don't invade, so the only invaders would be those such as yourself who are invading with powerful end game gear. So in effect you and others like you are the reason they are there. If you would go elsewhere, then they would no longer have anyone to fight and they too would go elsewhere. It does hurt low level players trying to play living through the Parish, because as long as your little war goes on, they are caught in the middle.

Thankfully I have passed on through the Parish and the Depths and am enjoying the peace and quit of Blighttown. happy

@ DxV04 Its a bit of a joke between me and a friend. Like a lion tamer with a chair and a whip, it uses a plank shield and a whip.

@Kirk-Barb Normally and before today I'd agree with you. But after nearly 40 invasions I'd invaded two legitimate new players. I typically invade low level, around 30-60 and see a lot of people with high level gear, at then I can attribute it to low level runs and being on ng+, but at sl 5 in the parish all I can conclude is they nearly everyone bb glitches. I can't possibly believe that everyone I ran into with maxed gear was on ng+.

I mostly enjoy Gravelording the Parish or the Burg. I have one base line weapon for the new players and one +10 weapon (not hard to get) or fire weapons )in the catacombs where I got my Gravelord status for the griefers.

New players who do invade get humanity and fair duels and often come again and again for practice.

Griefers get no pity and I kill them in a variety of extremely amusing and cheesy ways.

Those are the same asshats who invaded me when I just started. Every time I went human from the bonfire under the bridge dragon 20 seconds later a dw shows up in endgame gear bsed me and bows

Ive been trying to get help for four kings, *** dws show up right on cooldown I guess ill do it alone I like summoning people makes it easier and helps them with medals or souls

So I joined the darkmoon covenant on my main and I'm gonna dedicate my spare time to killing the dw's who hop in, clearly notice I'm going for a boss kill, and come straight for me. And anyone else who associates themselves with that covenant. They exist to grief people who go human. That's a **** move

That's why I don't go human until after Quelaag. And, I drain New Londo and homeward bone back to the shrine. I go back down to New Londo and wait for summons. If I get invaded, no big deal. Not much lost and my blood stain is easy to recover.

Yep. Staying hollow until after Quelaag (or at the bonfire before her if you need to summon help) has eliminated low level griefers invading me.

I have always done it like that before bbglitch or whatever, I do not find the point of low level grief. I am a DW always and have never done invasions of that kind, just my way of thinking though.

I do know that the game balances out since you can summon phantoms and also npc help while human so the fact that you can get invaded is parallel, but at low levels invading just feels bad.

there's no point to it. On average I would get 50-1000 souls, which in the grand scheme of things is next to nothing. The fights were either against someone who didn't know how to play or most of the time against someone with maxed gear who would one shot me.

i've done low level invades using starter gear... at around lvl 4 50% of encounters were honest noobs, most invasions ended up with me parrying thm and riposting with my fist till they decided to try it and parried me(using my fist to r1 spam) (i'd upgraded my knight armor to +3 across the board so it didn't hurt to much) when the people knew what they were doing though the fights were intense! and quite enjoyabel despite me losing.

Errjon6661: I think you missed my point. New players are not effected by campers. A player sitting in the Parish with the most powerful equipment and weapons in the game means nothing to the new guy struggling to make it to the Bell Gargoyles. Invaders on the other hand do effect the new guy. Personally, I was invaded 8 times on my way to the Gargoyles in my trusty unmodified chain and longsword. Every invader had armor that only allowed me to do single digit damage and they were armed with some type of electrified monster weapon I have yet to find in the game. I lost two valiant Sunbros along the way as well. Your problem isn't the new players or the campers. Your problem is the area you are invading. I'm betting if you choose another area to invade and pick a level and equipment for that area, you'd do much better.

Don't get me wrong. I like Darkwraiths invading while I'm adventuring. It makes the game more interesting and harder. That's why I always play human. I want to be invaded, I just want the fight to be based on skill and not on equipment inequality.

ViralEnsign: Gravelord, I wish I would be cursed. I have played through the Burg, Parish and Depths and have yet to see even a flicker of a sign of the Gravelord's handywork. I'm in the Blightown area now. Maybe something will come my way.

@Kirk-Barb, I see exactly where you're coming from. The reason I'm feeling like it doesn't effect the new players is because there are so many campers taking the invasions and farming the invaders. Out of over 40 invasion I maybe encounter 3 new players.

every time i start a new char i get invaded by griefers left and right its funny when you beat one with starting gear but rare for me...near impossible for someone who is really new. you guys may only see 3 or 4 out of every 50 you invade but thats only because there are so many griefers that one either already invaded the new char or they are out of humanity.

Sorry but you guys saying that it doesnt effect new players are just dead wrong.

Which is why i used the glitch to create my anti griefer darkmoon twisted which i also use to help new guys through the burg(there are actually alot of either noobs or ppl making new chars without glitching) its kind of my own little griefer protection service!8)

ErrJon6661: It sure effected me. I have to agree with sinisterapathy. Your seeing few new players because they are there, but they are playing hollow because the invaders have made it so unpleasant for them to play living. The ones who do play living, such as myself, have a very short window of invasion availability because someone else has already killed them and they are spending the next 20 to thirty minutes trying to earn another humanity. Let's face it, getting humanity out of the rats is kind of tough with a 00 humanity. If you want to see more new players to invade then you need to make it fun for them again. Keep a set of beginner equipment to fight them with so they at least feel they have a chance in the fight. If your the type that simply enjoys crushing the weak and inexperienced, drop them some humanity before hand so that they might be available to invade sooner. Oh, and you need to start these acts of kindness in the upper Burg, because by the time a new player has made it to the boss fight, he has had enough of being brutalized, and is now playing hollow or offline.

You see thats what I was doing though. I was using a notched whip +5, not "beginner" equipment per say, but the most damage I would do to someone in starting gear was around 60. I used a plank shield un-upgraded which has next to no stability and little damage reduction. My armor was pharris' hat and hollow warrior leggings.

I had high level gear, as backup for when I inevitably ran into low level players who also had high level gear.

As far as gifting goes I feel that ruins the game nearly as much as griefing. Not by ruining your experience but by taking the experience of the game away. it removes that hopeless feeling every masochistic fan of this game seems to love.

While invading griefers there are still a huge issue to new players, I will say gifting is another really big issue. I remember on my first playthrough someone dropped me a +10 full elite knight set which I thanked them for, they told me they had a bunch of spares which at first I didn't understand but now I do. I played for a bit with it but eventually I just tossed it aside, because the game just felt way to easy with it. I think you can really ruin someone's experience by dropping them full upgraded weapons, as well you can turn someone into an over powered player while they are at low levels, meaning they can grief.

EDIT: However I see no issue with dropping say, a humanity or two.

i have to disagree with guys on that. if someone gives you something you feel is op then dont use it..but gifting in general i think should be done more often because there are so many d-bags in this game that just make it frustrating and when some gives something away it shows that there are alot of good people playing too...especially when invaders do it.

i had a pretty new char i made a few days ago and a bb glitch guy invaded me a lvl 20 or 30 somethin and he dropped me a +10 divine claymore(or some kinda divine) greatsword i think i had stats for it but i had no use for it because i hate slow weapons and im a dex build. after a day of being invaded constantly by people in end game gear lagstabbing me(why are you doing that? youll one shot me anyway!) i was starting to wonder if i even want to play this game anymore considering ive beat it more than once the only thing left is co op and pvp him giving me that useless(though op) item made me feel alot better about the DkS community.

As I said I see no issue with dropping something like humanity, or an item that can be found in an area. I typically drop humanity for people who are having a difficult time, that way if they're on their last attempt if they die it isn't all lost. The forest it is pretty ambiguous, but other areas like the Catacombs I can see, "Okay, this guy is a new player. Better cut him a break and drop a humanity." I then just follow them around not attacking, removing my weapons and just watching. I'm actually waiting for them to die to the environment, as well if I see them miss an item I run up and kick them and bring them towards it. I don't see an issue with gifting, but I see an issue with gifting vastly over-powered items. Either way though, the community does really need a kick in the ***. The amount of Griefers is ridiculous.

I tend to drop sunlight medals if it is a sunbro, and humanity only if I am out of estus. Running out of estus is common right before O&S it seems.

Thats pretty awesome..and i agree that having op weapons makes things boring and actually humanity would be the best possible thing to gift imo but that may be because i HATE farming. I would've been so much happier if that guy had dropped humanity instead even though the weapon(which i never used) was way more valuble lol
