Soul Reaver and Dark Souls

Soul Reaver was one of my favourite games on PSone and I've just found out that there is an HD version in the offing. Anyway I was watching the video that accompanied the article and it suddenly struck me that the ambience of the game is very similar to Dark Souls. This made me wonder whether the Legacy of Kain series could have been one of the inspirations behind Dark Souls.

Kind of a similar premise. Really bad stuff happened 1000 years ago, and now you have to fix. Ancient beings that have been warped for some reason or another into monstrosities. Fits mostly, but this type of story has been seen in Japanese culture a ton (just based on anime), but also it is a theme also found in LoTR, which everyone is accused of ripping off, lol

I loved these games also. Blood Omen 2 was awful IMO but I really enjoyed all the others. I loved the end of Soul Reaver 2. Such a complex and enthralling plot.

theres even a sword that might be considered a tribute to soulreaver: the flamberge, just cast a gmw on it and you've got the spirit form soulreaver!

Or fire. Wasn't there a flame form for the reaver?

hmm... claw in off hand with flamberge... dingy robe... stone gauntlets and leggings... thief head? 9on a female toon it looks right at least)

It's unfortunate how unplayable it is now, in this gaming generation. Old graphics don't bother me at all. But the load screens for that game are UNBEARABLE. It literally loads for 30 seconds every time you bring up and cancel out of your menus.

I dream of them remaking all the previous games...and you know not screwing it up. Thats not gonna happen though. They should however make the final entry as they were supposed to..the last game was not any kind of acceptable ending for the legacy of Kain. so many things left unresolved and questions unanswered.

I agree. In fact it's the only game I can remember where I went back and replayed the last quarter because I thought I'd missed something. I hadn't and I thought that it was an opportunity missed. I mean, all of time to play with and it ended very abruptly. Maybe it was pressure from the suits.

indeed there probably was pressure from em...but it was supposed have questions left because they were SUPPOSED to make one more but stupid square cancled it so they could put crystal dynamics to makng some crappy game...i effing hate square. it would be awsome if square gave the rights to it back to Silicone Knights though OR Silicone Knights and CD teamed up to make another...that would be really awesome. Although, Square sucks so i doubt either one will happen.

Who knows, if the HD version takes off, someone may take it on. Hope so.

Are they making one?! lol i just googled it but all i saw were rumors...i hope so. i just found out that blood omen and soul reaver are on the ps store though woot!
