Souls obtained?

So after you kill someone in PvP, you gain some amount of souls from them. Sometimes it's only a few thousand, other times it's in the ten-thousands. I'm sure others have acquired much much more than that.

My question is this, how do you know how many souls you'll get from killing someone? Is it some percentage based on how many souls they currently have? What if they have a considerably low amount of souls?

It is based on their level, if I remember correctly someone tested it and it was 50% of the souls it takes for them to level up.

So it's based on the other player's level and the amount of souls they need and not yours?

For example I invaded someone today as a Darkmoon and got only 69 miserable souls. He must've been SL 3 or lower.

I thought I read somewhere in here that Darkmoons get 10% of the opponents souls (needed to level up), as opposed to 50%.

I'm pretty sure it's 10% while invading and 50% when you kill the invader.

Cause I've been invaded and I've invaded the same person and gotten a different amount of souls when I killed said person both times.

As the invader I got 9k something souls and as the invadee I got 45k something souls.

If it's 10% then I don't know what level were those guys, but I gained 800 000 souls for each.

Kill an invader and get 50% of the souls it takes for them to level up.

Invade and kill the host and you get 10% of what it takes for them to level up.

I'm sure it's 50%, he was in Painted World btw, maybe a challenge run. I got ~10,000 mostly as invader and my Darkmoon is SL 60 and to level up it requires ~20,000 souls. I don't think my Darkmoon is invading players with ~100,000 required souls to level up.

You'd be surprised by how PvP challenged some people are.

yeah, I am just starting to get better at PVP, now winning one out of ten where I was losing all of them before, and you would get somewhere in the neighborhood of 8K from me...

Why not? That would put them right around level 120. A very common level....

Anyway, like I said, it is 50% for killing invaders, and 10% for killing a host. It is not a guess.

At this point it is no different than saying the game begins at the undead asylum. An absolute fact.

Dont take my tone the wrong way, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just trying to fully convey that this is not just speculation.

Didn't know that an SL 60 Darkmoon could invade SL 120s, according to the fact (?) that it's 10% +- 10 levels. Some take it as a fact, I don't have proof that SL 60 Darkmoons cannot invade SL 120, I haven't test it.

I will grant that it seems to be fairly uncommon knowledge still at this point.

Once you kill an invader or host go to this page, do the math, and you can see their level.

I have freaked out a few people by knowing actually, lol. I was invading with my level 55 in the Ruins and I lost to a massive WoG spammer, (had 9 casts and used them all before the fight finally ended). He used every taunt, including tossing prism stones....

10 minutes later I invade again and knowing his tactics I beat him pretty easily the second time around. I got 26,339 souls. Which put him at level 188. He sends me hate mail of course, and I reply that maybe he needs to do another run through and pump his WoG up to 12 casts if he can't beat someone 100+ levels below him. He replied "I am at level 90" To which I replied; "lol, ahhh, no. You are level 188, why lie about it?"

"How do you know my level? Are you a hacker?"

....and because I am a nice guy I actually explained to him how if you can believe it, lol.

According to the table he was SL 3, 69 souls being the 10% of 690. I read the SL invading equation from the wiki, it could be wrong.

I've messaged people after calculating their level to confirm and its been right every time. I'm sure it operates on the 10/50% rule you guys were talking about earlier.

I don't think so Sulfur, I tested it and the formula is 100% correct. Also as Gravelord, you get 10% of the SoVs required souls to level up, as if it was you the invader.

Well that sucks pretty hard. I guess the guy I one shotted twice in a row for 350k souls each time didn't put many points into vit... Man though, seems really unfair that ganking hosts get 5x more souls than I do when I kill them.

Hosts have more at steak, sure the mechanic is being abused but it had good intentions.
