How did undeads end up in that asylum?

We never get to see a majority of the asylum or it's back really. As well most of it is in pretty poor condition meaning there could have been branching paths, another side to the mountain with more there, or even tunnels leading downwards.

According to Lore, Clerics took there all the Undeads they could. They kind of exile them there.

When the asylum was full they probably destroyed any acces points to prevent undead escaping. They are meant to await the end of the world.

Haha my turf. He was originally in Lordran and got there by crow. The crestfallen warriors mentions it. he went there specifically to free another sane undead to pick up on his undead mission when he failed.
