OP at low level

Hello everyone!

I want to share with you something that happened with my last character. I started as a Wanderer and i was planning a Dex build with a lot of stamina and stamina regen, without using any miracles, magic or pyro, and also without using any elemental weapon upgrade. That being said, i start playing: defeat the Taurus Demon, got the Drake Sword, defeat the Bell gargoyles. All fine for now. Then, after talking to the blacksmith, i fight the titanite demon and i get a drop: titanite Catch Pole. Ok, nice. Let's try that. 307 damage. What the hell??? Ok let's upgrade this thing, i thought. Now i have that pole +3, soul lvl 32, and i deal 417 damage. Nonsense!!! I have a character lvl 75 with a Chaos Gargoyle's Halberd + 3 that deals 460 damage 0 humanity, and a stupid lvl 32 who deals 417? I owned the capra demon in 3 hits!

Do you think that i may have ruined the game? Should i come back to the drake sword?

Nope bro, you didn't break the game, you just didn't see the limits of the weaponry yet .
And titanite Catch Pole is very rare, i.e. getting it on your first playthrough and 3-hit-killing the Capra Demon some minutes later is pretty unlikely.

Wait. I never said this is my first playthrough. I fought the capra demon hundred times so i know how to do it, i just never got it in 1 two-handed fall attack + 2 R1 swings. Dropping this pole early in the game is a super lucky thing, indeed. Ok so this weapon later in the game is not so impressive as it seems now. I can keep enjoing it as it's so good in PvE Do you think a Shotel regular + 15 at 40 dex can deal a similar amount of damage? Or it's better using a Lightning Shotel +5?

I never said this was your first playthrough either. It depends on the opponents; if you really only play PvE and really want to use the Shotel, you should rather go with Fire/Chaos. (Or if you certainly want to rely "on" Dex then you will have to use weapons which scale better, like Katanas or other curved swords.

What about pvp? I want to play pvp too... but i rarely win

Then Lightning, or extremely scaling weapons/buffs.
L.-Shotel is good in low level PvP.

The Catchpole is amazing. Just wish the move set was a bit different.

i just wisj the jump had the same range and height as the titanite demons jump. it would be awesome!

Lvl 1 character:

+5 Lightning Club, 600+ dmg
+5 Fire Dagger, 700+ dmg on ripostes and backstabs

I find Chaos upgrade to more powerful than lightning in PvP (10 humanity though).

And for high lvl pvp? Claymore or Zweihander? Of lightning of course. So if you don't use elemental weapons or +15 regular with DM or SL blade or Crystal Weapon Magic you can't do a good damage rate?
