So, I had a quick question that I didn't see in the parry information on the wiki. Now, recently we were doing cosplays in the pit and Reim was the Golem, I think I was a black knight? Either way, He used his R2, the wave of energy from the golem's axe. I meant to block it as I accidentally rolled into it, but pressed R2, and parried. You know how you can parry an attack causing it to do a little bit of damage and take up some of your stamina? The wave of energy did that to me, I only took a small bit of damage, lost some stamina, and didn't even get knocked back. I don't know about actual spells, but might this mean you can do this for weapons with an R2 "Spell?" I was wondering if anyone else has noticed something like this before.

Re: Parry That Spell?
I think that because you are parrying with your shield it obsorbed part of the damage, i had that experience with the silver knights shield bash move.

I have had the same experience against the moonlight sword magic attack. Pure luck.

Re: Parry That Spell?
I think you can parry it. I've heard of people parring WoG.

Re: Parry That Spell?
Butt parrying something like that online would be PURE luck, with all the lag anyways...

Re: Parry That Spell?
it takes less stamina to parry than to flip. so i guess it is worth trying actually. You have to time both. However maybe the parry window is smaller than the flip window.

Re: Parry That Spell?
It can be done against spells and weapon magic, but the window is extremely small and when you throw in even the slightest PvP lag it becomes almost impossible. You can practice it on the archives channelers to see what I mean, stand at the absolute limit of their range so you have max reaction time. A sparring partner with the crystal ring shield also works. Rolling is both higher percentage and also 0 dmg when successful, and also keeps you moving while the parry often sets you up for a bs particularly 2v1, so I find rolling far preferable. Even if you pull off the parry odds are nobody will notice so it's not even going to intimidate anyone. I only try it in extremely desperate situations where I can't roll (i.e., pinned against a cliff or in the trees in the forest) and am probably dead anyway. The punishment for not pulling it off is usually just too high.

Re: Parry That Spell?
Did you parry his weapon, or the wave itself? Because you can parry special R2 attacks just like a regular attack. I don't know about parrying the magic itself, though.
I saw it on youtube (don't remember the video, though...), where someone was using the Dragon King Greataxe and was about to cast the AoE 2H R2 special, when his opponent parried the weapon like it was a regular attack before the spell could go off.

Re: Parry That Spell?
It's easy to practice parrying Wrath by using Petrus. The window is pretty lenient, too. I was disappointed that you can't riposte, though. Not that it would make sense to be able to do so, but it would still be cool.

Re: Parry That Spell?
theres also a trick that allows you to block attacks but not be stunned by catching the blow on your shield allowing you to keep moving (usually leading to a bs but...) its acomplished by tapping the guard button to just catch the attack but not actually raise your shield, timings harder than parrying apparently...
