    Weapon buff advice

Post by fujiphoenix on Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:09 am

I was wondering if anybody could give me pointers on how to make the most out of the buff before it wears out. An example would be how I can counter people that just kite me until it runs out. Any strategy is worth mentioning.

Also, on a side not. Has anybody figured out the mechanics of karmic justice, and if it is a viable option in pvp?

There are a few threads that mention karmic justice, it basically activates after a certain amount of successive hits, theres more on other threads in the wiki. As for your weapon buff issue here are a few tips.

First off, turtles are easy to deal with. The kick animation depletes stamina like nobodies business. Make use of it. Some people keep a shotel handy for situations like you're describing. I'm not sure what kind of build you use or if its even viable to use the shotel but its something to consider.

You can make people more agressive by causing poison or toxin on them, thats another thing to consider. You can stalk up on dung pies rather easily. This will make them block less and try and kill you before the poison kills them.

Lastly two handing your weapon will take more of their stamina to block.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Weapons that arc and dead angle are great for dealing with turtles outside of the above mentioned Shotel. Typically for turtles I like to dead angle them with my Murakumo, which ignores their shield and will stunlock them in a hit or two depending on their armor. As for dealing with people who kite, the trick is fast weapons, the issue is just don't let it become known when you are going to strike or you are asking for your agression to be met with a parry, a great way to get kiters is spears. A pike is great for it, as is a Silver Knight Spears, Demon Spear, or Dragonslayer spear.

What stats do you plan on going into?

CMW and DMB are both great options, but they have their flaws. Both are negated by GMB, however most people do not carry this spell on them. As well, for DMB of course you need to be a Darkmoon, I prefer CMW truly, as well you can buff it more than once. That way if they are kiting too much you can just reapply.

As for Pine Resins, the main two I use are Charcoal, and the Poison one. Poison is great for pressuring people as was mentioned above, you can force people to have to fight you, as they would be foolish to use moss mid combat to negate the effect. If they do, punish them. The fire I prefer because of the fact that most wear armor better suited against lightning, but again that will be based more upon an armor issue.

Hidden weapon is actually an interesting one, as you can buff say a Flamberg and come out with them assuming a claymore, and suddenly be met with a bleed effect. You can go out looking like you could have any light weapon, and surprise them with a BSS or Bandit's Knife they had no clue about.

Finally in regards to kiting, force them back. Don't let them go circles, instead gain ground and keep it. You can force them to an edge they just can't get around then you can corner them and force a fight. If they still try to flee punish them with a BS as their back will be an easy target as they try to get out at this distance. As well stunlocking large weapons are great for dealing with Kiters. However most of them cannot be buffed.

I hope some of this helps, good luck in your PvP experience!

Thanks for the tips, what I am more interested in is how I can kill a kiter before my weapon buff wears out. I'm planning on a dex/faith build. I've never done a dex build before. But since I'll only have one sunlight blade per fight, I will be in trouble if it runs out. I need advice on how to kill a kiter inside the one minute the buff will last for, or at least get him low enough on health that I can finish him off soon after. I plan on using a balder side sword or a washing pole. I'm leaning towards BSS tho because the katana weapons are extremely over used.

The bss is a great weapon. At +15 and roughly 40 dex you'll be doing enough damage without the buff that the buff will just be icing on the cake. Also its moveset is very versatile and relatively easy to dead angle with. Check out EWGF for tips on dead angling as its great against kiters like Tolvo said. I don't recommend doing it all the time, unless someone just hides behind a shield.

Something I didn't mention, since you're doing dex/faith get force and wog. They can drain stamina like nobodies business.

Never forget your running attacks, as well as your rolling 2h R1. For Longswords, which BSS is one of, it is almost instant upon pressing the button, you can easily catch people with this, but it is also very telegraphed so an experienced PvP'er can easily parry this, many I find won't though outside of FC. What type of spirit will you be invading as first of all, Blue or Red?

you guys may find this cheap but ive started not letting people buff(i make an exception for FC). way i see it is if you want to buff your weapon and get that advantage you better be ready to take a slash. lots of people expect you to let them just load up(buff, grass,PW) if they want those bonuses they gotta risk the cast time in battle.

I'm going to be a DW. Just because the REO is easier to invade with than the DM's blue orb. But as a dex faith build, would being a DM be better? I don't know if there are any hidden mechanics to consider.

You're right, I do find it cheap. I prefer to let my opponent to get ready instead of rushing them.

You can extend the length of your weapon buff by equipping the Lingering Dragoncrest ring. That might help. I don't think it works with resins, though.

It only increases spell length, miracles are unaffected by the Linge ring DCR. But you got me super pumped for the 30 seconds it took me to look it up lol. Thanks silly

Well there are two things to consider, Dark Wraith, you invade upwards. So you'll be fighting people your level, and higher. Dark moon, while they have to be guilty you will be invading downwards, so people your level and lower. In regards to buffing first figure out where your enemy is in random PvP. Then buff as you know you get near to them. Or, you can find them, get away, buff, and come back in as they chase you. That way you can catch them off guard with the buff. I do this in the forest with SLB, I lead them to the bridge, and buff around the corner. They assume I'm casting Tempest, and when they don't see it they come in to check it out. Then I pop out with an SLB Murakumo and dead angle them to death in seconds. It works fairly well.

FP - I just reread my post. It came off wrong. Too accusatory for what I intended - not directed at you, per se. When we fought in FC, you were great.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but if the fight starts with bowing by both parties, then that seems pretty chintzy, since there was ample time to buff before any courtesies, but the person who would be buffing wanted you to know they were there for a duel.

On topic, I use Sunlight Blade with a BSS +15 for PvP, and I'm also yet to find a foolproof strategy that makes opponents open up. I can usually harass them with kicks, running one-handed attacks to their left (somewhat dead angle) and light swats for enough chip damage to bait them into attacking. Sometimes it doesn't work, and if the buff wears off without them showing any openings, I'll switch to a poise-shattering sword and attempt to crush them through their shield.

Another thing to consider when choosing dm or dw is as a faith build whether or not you want to use dmb or slb. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

DMB is to my knowledge the strongest buff in the game, but is completely dependent on your rank in the covenant. It also deals magic damage which is easily countered by various shields armors and spells.

SLB is slightly weaker but deals lightning damage, not so easily countered.

Also another technique for dealing with kiters, and I may get flak for this but you can usually pivot bs them rather easily.

I don't know what a pivot bs is lol. Last time I asked I got a polite, "no comment" kind of answer. Is it when you run past their right side while locked on, and use the spin to turn your attack into a backstab?

Yes and no, there's a few different kinds of ways to do it.

Check out EWGF on youtube, its easier to see how to do them than to read how to do them.
