The 'Reputation' thing

'Long, long ago and in a galaxy far far away'when I was a teenager, a girl would do anything to avoid getting a 'reputation' because it meant that she was a little lax in the morals department which was considered a BAD THING.

How times have changed. A 'reputation' on this wiki is now a GOOD THING, so how do I go about getting one?

Friendly, helpful posts, candid explanations (eg: being non-confrontational when expressing your opinions), and Particularly funny posts will get you rep. So if, say, mildred who has 50+ rep answers a question her answer is almost certainly more reliable than, say, mine. And if its not, she'll post again to acknowledge her error.

Do the staffs manage who gets how much rep then?

The easiest way is by posting things that are absurd enough that they could be confused with being funny, I go this route. 8)

Mostly people give it out for helpful tips, organizing community events, or telling spot on jokes. Like jokes about spoons, those are always great.

However you need to be a bit wary of reputation levels too, they are all in all fairly meaningless in this community seeing as many of the posters have so much know how about the game.

Someone with only 1 or 2 rep could easily have just great and explanation as myself or Tolvo etc.

You do get times when people get rep for pretty much nothing though.. Just make sure you don't ignore guys with none or negative rep

Reputation is just a way for the community to express and gauge its appreciation for relevant, helpful and fun posts. The "staff" are all volunteer fellow gamers and we don't really mess around with the rep levels, so feel free to + and - posts to contribute to the community help-o-meter!

Scud i agree, sometimes you just get rep for something random while your best posts you get nothing, just the way it goes really.

I wouldn't harp too much on getting rep, it's nice to have but when you boil down to it, it's nothing necessary.

I agree tolvo, as my more wordy post says, it's a bit arbitrary.

Though if you're in the negative, there's usually a reason for it

You will noticed there is + and - next to the person avatar, if you liked his/her post, you can rate it and the person will have more or less reputation. AFAIK, it does not work in off topic threads

+ or - in the top right of the text box, or to the left of their avatar and username. Other than that, being helpful, friend, and posting something funny or interesting. It just varies on moods and whatnot. You only get 2 votes a day, resets at midnight, so use them when it matters. For the heck of it since I have one left, there you go.

I believe FEX did it on purposse so people would not just random rep in the off topic for nothing

Ahh makes sense, learn something new every day.

You can also give thanks to people at the bottom of their post for 3 rep, I hit that on accident sometimes when I'm trying to quote people lol.

I have merged the topics since they are pretty identical and were right on top of each other.
