    okay - so from my limited knowledge I understand that HDMI is security coded therefore it makes it hard trying to get a HDMI capture device for PS3's and most of them use component correct ?

    Does anyone know of a good effective solution to get around this ? by maybe using a stand alone appliance or a mix of items with a PC to enable me to capture HDV of dark souls game-play for example ?

    unfortunately my PS3 is setup in my office connected to a monitor via DVI which is why I cannot go to a component compatible option
