White Phantoms

Anybody know how they work exactly? Like I know when you're seeing them you're seeing another player, but you think when you see them they can also see you? I only ask because I've made a habit of stopping and gesturing at white phantoms whose visual field I would clearly be included in if they can in fact see me also. Think they can see me when I do that or am I just wasting my time?

I am pretty sure they can. I have two friends who played with me a ton, and when we were trying to drop stones for summoning, we could often see each other (we knew it was the other person because we would do things like spin in a circle).

Yeah I've definitely done things like that also, but running in circles is a bit less of a complex action than gestures. I don't know that I've ever seen a white phantom gesture.

I just can't help myself. I like waving at phantoms.

You can also recognize friends by their gear.

I think there's a delay on it though. You wouldn't be able to gesture back and forth. I say this because sometimes I see ghosts that look exactly like actions I was involved in just moments earlier. Like in Sen's, I'll invade someone and fight them, then once I'm back in my world I'll see a ghost doing the exact same maneuvers as the host fighting me.

I don't know if there's a delay at bonfires also, but I think so. Only difference is you can see people clearly. Sometimes I gesture to them, but I've never had anyone gesture back. Most of the time I attack them to try and freak them out!

Yeah the bonfires are usually where I end up trying to gesture. I think you're right about the slight delay also. I've caught my own phantom following me around a few feet behind me before.

I've seen phantoms gesture at bonfires but have never been able to engage them with a gesture.

When I was fairly new I had a phantom gesture at me. I stopped in my tracks and thought what a coincidence that I must've been standing right where the real person he was gesturing was. He was probably seeing me, though.

We were chatting while a friend was summoning me for Bed of Chaos and I could see his shadow moving around. It was about 5 seconds behind him. When he walked next to the bonfire I could see him clearly. That's so cool.

I think so too. It's such a small, essentially meaningless part of the game, but it's so cool.

When the game first came out I remember getting to the fire in the burg and there was a person standing there, in basic gear and he turned to me and started swinging, so I swung too... then he was gone.

REALLY cool mechanic, I don't know if it was just dumb luck, but I think its real time, its just too brief to do anything meaningful.

i fell off a ledge in New Londo flipping away from a phantom i thought was a ghost. i hate those ghosts SO. MUCH.
