Anyone else get this feeling?

I mean the feeling of immense loneliness while playing this game. For some reason I do.

I think it might be just the way online play works, you're going through a level, lets say blighttown. Its Dark, massive, and danger at every turn, but thats normal for a lot of games.

What I think it is, at least for me, is the way online works. From time to time, you'll see a vague representation of someone else playing, and maybe a blood stain here and there, showing you the death of someone just like you. Not only that, but the detailed spirits you see at bonfires help, because not only can you not communicate with them, but they are fleeting, and usually vanish quickly. Sometimes I wish I could reach over into that persons world and just talk with them for a bit, try to get away from the immense feeling of loneliness

Sometimes it hits me how alone you are in this game, in almost every other one you have some sort of haven, bustling with NPCs, but not int his game. All you have is the occasional lost soul you find, and the small group at Firelink


I just have to say, the simple fact this game can get a response out of me with so little is amazing. Few games have done it without the help of a cutscene, or other NPCs. All this game uses is the passing player, and my want to reach out and grab them

So, does anyone else feel this? Or felt something close to this in this game or any other?

Just play as human and online. I guarantee you wont be lonely for long. There'll be a queue of little red phantoms just itching to make your acquaintance.

Whenever my connection is sh*tty I feel so lonely cant see signs, bloodstains, shadows of other players and just a few hints. That's really depressive D:

The whole point of the game is to have this lonely feeling

(since it's your first playthrough wouldn't recommend you becoming human until you've killed the final boss anyway)

When I was on my first playthrough I constantly felt this, especially on my descent through Blighttown. but on NG+ I find myself wanting to just push on and perform my tasks. I feel less lonely and more relieved to not be scared all the time. Also the wiki does help in knowing that I'm not the only fool on this errand.

I play exclusively at night (after my family is all asleep) with all the lights off. I live in a windy area with a good amount of trees to add ambiance. Lonely is a good descriptor.

If you play online/human more, you'll find the other times not so much lonely as peaceful. When the network was down last weekend for maintenance, I actually enjoyed wandering through Anor Londo without that crawly feeling between my shoulderblades the whole time.

Trying to get past Ornstein & Smough at the moment. And when them two a running at you, you definitely feel like you're on your own. Want to summon Solaire for a little company but those two giant gold guards are a pain in the a$$!

You can kill those guards from a distance with poison arrows. You'll have to poison them each twice because it wears off before they die, so it takes a few minutes, but it's fun!

Co-op! After you kill an area boss go human and place your summon sign down so others can summon you to help with the boss in their world (just make sure your character is prepared).

It's especially nice when you help someone who has been dying to the boss over and over and you know that you really helped them out, but sometimes you'll get summoned by someone who obviously doesn't need the help and just summoned you for the company, which is kind of nice too.

Yes i get this feeling also many times, i dont think it is there out of coincidence, it blends nicely with the whole game and making the experience even more challenging and rewarding. Ofcourse on your 2nd playthrough this feeling of loneliness and creepiness of the unknown is somewhat diminished since the exploration part is over.

And i can not even remember the times i wished this game had a chat feature where you could talk to your host/ghosts.

Being lonely is a normal feeling during darksouls you are in a dark scary world after all so inorder to stave of lonliness I like to lay down my summon sign and help people there is a lot of circumstances where I like Callipygias have been summoned by someone who didn't need help but wanted the company it was nice after all (easy humanity)

Try talking to yourself. I do it all the time. It can definitely entertain you. Like when I was going through B town, I found the troll like guy and said u look like my grandpa joe, he hits me and I was like wow gramps hits hard and ran away. Then I ran into the spider like things that shoot flames and I was man not gonna like but u look like something I crapped out 10 mins ago. Then I got to quelaag, saw what she had going on and well............that kind of talk isnt allowed here

Haha you know what I says everytime I fight quelaag? Sorry, Quelaag being hot from the waist up doesn't make up for what you got from the waist down

But see, that's what gets my fire burning the most is when u have no idea what's going on in the basement.....

If you are on your first playthrough, DO NOT look stuff up, it is helpful, and tempting, but honestly it ruins the first run experience. The forum is good, but stay away from the Wiki...
