    button mapping changes

Post by IHateTheFourKings on Sat Aug 10, 2013 12:40 pm

I'm not sure if this warrants a whole thread of its own, but I want to bring up something that kind of bothers me: In gameplay footage of Dark Souls 2, the B button seemed to be used to perform most actions, which was instead assigned to the A button in the first Dark Souls. If that's the case, I honestly don't like it all that much. Any thoughts?

I'm confused... There's no 'A' or 'B' button on a playstation controller lol!

Aren't many Japanese versions of games mapped with the circle and X buttons (A and B) reverse that of US versions? I seem to recall that being the case on games I've imported.

I think it's because of regional differences. Japanese games tend to reverse the "select" option to the rightmost button where westerners prefer it on the bottom. The Japanese version of Dark Souls has O as select instead of X, for example. In localized, non-Japanese versions of the game it will likely be normal to us.

Oh, I never knew that. At any rate, I'm glad they didn't just arbitrarily change it. Thanks for the clarification.

Since westerners are all obviously so lazy I think we just wanted the button that was the closest to the analogue stick to press silly

In most Japanese rpg's, O, or "B," is the primary select button.
