Hoping for atmosphere

The thing that kept me coming back to Dark Souls was the haunting atmopshere of the game. It probably goes without saying, but I really hope DS 2 is even more immersive then the first. Gameplay is definitely important, but it was the eerie dismal world that hooked me the most. The footage looks promising!

Mansion of the Dragon's reminds me of Castlevania in a way. Now all we need is an orchestral remake of Vampire Killer and a whip drop, some consumable weapons like throwing axes and throwing knives, and we'll have the next best Castlevania!

I wouldnt worry about atmosphere. They have mentioned this will follow the same loose story where gameplay takes precedence, plus they are working with a new engine which is much more capable of environmental/lighting effects.

The director also noted that he is going to toy with our auditory senses through ambient sounds and whatnot, so all signs so far are promising.

If same the Konami crew who made 'castlevania: symphony of the night' teamed up with From on DaS2, I would probably not be disappointed with the outcome, one of my favorite games of all time

So I totally love SOTN too. Awesome. I am excited about the weather effects and lighting I have seen with the game - and I agree with you two, the game is already looking fantastic.
