I do and just attended Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport Ct. My wife and I do them as our small vacations as we both love live music. Saw no Dark Souls shirts or auto stickers. Would love to go and meet a fellow player, someday.

Just wondering how many of you Demon's Souls & Dark Souls players also attend Music Festivals. Doesn't matter if they are bluegrass, jazz or jamband or whatever...

No, I don't have the money to spare so I can go. Also most of the bands that I do listen to play mostly overseas, are on hiatus, or have disbanded.

I would go to Burning Man and stuff, but I wouldn't make the trip for it, honestly. Around here the big one is called Sunfest, and, honestly, the musical acts are only so-so even in the best years and the preponderance of idiotic teenagers that go are enough to drive anyone away.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
I go, and I play in some of the smaller midwest festivals when I can. Love checking out the new bands and new music. Went to Bella this spring, going to Electric Forest next year w/ the camper, wanted to go to Bonaroo last year, but it didn't work out. I'm big into eclectic festivals, so something w/ jamband, bluegrass, electronic, funk, rock, hip hop, etc... all in one festival are the ones I gravitate to.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
Oh wow. I've gone to Vibes a bunch of times. Haven't in a couple years because my new lifestyle sorta dictates that I stay away from that stuff, I never really went for the music, but still, small world. I used to go to shows at Indian Lookout in upstate NY a lot too. Camp Creek and Summit shows there. Went to Mo Down a few times too, along with a couple others whose names are escaping me.
I think the last Vibes I went to was the one George Clinton headlined at. Good show. There were definitely a couple acts I'd actually go see when I was at these shows. Saw the Roots more than a couple times. Always a good time. I've never really been into the whole jam band scene, but I have a couple friends who followed Phish on tour for years and I used to go with them when they were in the relative area.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
The last time I went to Vibes my friends and I brought this enormous 10 person tent, and the second night of the show the three of us all ended up back there maybe around 1am and just hung out there the rest of the night. Maybe an hour after it got really quiet and I started singing peanut butter jelly time, and after maybe the first bar people in the next tent over started singing it, then more people around us started singing it, then more people, until it sounded like our whole camping area was. Went on for a good 5 minutes. So much fun. I miss festies.

Stories like this are what make festivals. The week after when it's all your friends talk about and the inside jokes just keep coming are the best part

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
I used to. My favourite one's are the Q-Dance festivals as the quality of them just beats others hands down. I used to drive to East Midlands airport, park my car there for a long weekend (4 days Friday to Monday around £25), cheap flight with BMI to Amsterdam, find a hostel then catch trains (European train service pisses all over UK ones) to the festival. Holland is a bit weird with their festivals though due to them finishing at 12pm but you get a great fireworks display at the end. If you want Q-Dance festival that goes through the night then you will have to go to Q-Base though it's a hell of a journey to get there if you're stopping in Amsterdam due to it being at some airfield in Germany so keep that in mind.
Anyway best festivals to go to if you like hard dance music.

Right? So many of my good stories are from festies. We would always go with a big group of people and with so many friends around and no semblance of self-control to be found just made for such good times. I miss my festy friends too. I'm probably only still in contact with 3 or 4 of them. Everyone's all grown up and serious now and have kids things. Not like it used to be. Me either.

Hmmm, never went for the music? Been to Indian lookout country club too. Back when GOTV was there. Saw the Roots, this year at GOTV in Brdgeport. Been to Moe Down a couple years ( within 1 1/2 hrs of here), last time was the year Levon Helm played. So glad I saw him before he passed.

Grown up?... Wtf? I'm like 56 and see older folks than me that go. If you're too old to hear music and dance and have fun, might as well be dead. Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
I think you're misunderstanding. I'm being discrete because this is supposed to be a family atmosphere and this is the kinda conversation that could find me idealizing before I realize it. We've all grown up in the sense that I think, save the couple of my friends who were really into it for the music, that we couldn't be at places like that and stay out of trouble, so none of us really go anymore. They were always the kinda places that we were all lucky to come home from. It was an absolute blast while it lasted, and I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything, but I certainly didn't behave in the smartest ways at those shows.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
I would love to be able to go to a music festival, but most of the bands I like usually play at ones like Paganfest and Wacken, which take place in Europe. That said, I really want to go on the "70,000 Tonnes of Metal" cruise at some point.

Ahhh. I was younger when I traveled around a little with the Grateful Dead & family so I certainly know where you come from on those last words you wrote. But... I am older now, know better and somehow still manage to have fun. Now days, we're lucky to make it home, from lack of sleep, because 3 to 4 nights of late night giggling, partying, music playing, horns honking, drums drumming, etc. BY OUR NEIGHBORS, while we sleep ( lightly ) . But it's ALL GOOD! I , myself, love it since I do stay up late normally playing DkS or DS, but my wife, she's an early to bed lady.
I see pholks like you alla time. Moderation, baby. Slow down. Lol.
Can't tell the younguns anything though... Been this way forevah.

Never been to a Metalfest. Closest thing was a Black Sabbath concert at MSG 1979ish.
I'm sure my wife would not go, but I probably would.

Moderation only works until it doesn't. It's all good though. I'm good now. Been awhile since it's been an issue.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
I love festies, it's been a couple of years since I've gone. Have a couple of friends who go to Bonaroo each year, keep meaning to go. I used to make Lollapalooza a regular thing. Last one I went to was Rock the Bells, the year Rage Against the Machine reunited. It was their first show back together, and I got my ticket the minute they went on sale. Was a great and sweltering day of hip hop on Randall's island, with an exclamation point to the evening. However, getting on the buses afterwards to get off the island was a minor riot. Scary then, fun story to retell amongst friends now. Otherwise I need to hit another one. I was remarking today that I could follow Sevendust around the way people follow Phish or the Dead. I've seen them too many times and not enough and they always just blow everyone off stage.

Re: Music festivals, anybody go?
Bonaroo is definitely worth making it to. I made it down there twice. The scale of it is just incredible. I used to wander campsites a lot and just hang out with random people, and I don't think I saw the same people twice the whole time I was there. Really good time.
