Youtube and it's stupid setup.

What the *** is up with it. we have many uploaders with names such as "Smosh" or "DasboSchitt", but if you try to make a youtube account, it forces you to use your full name, and then uses that for your display name, which is making it really stupid to try and make an actual youtube account for me to upload video's to.

Since it requests a full name, even if i give it a fake one in that required field, my username is 2 parts and has a space in it, which is worthless for what I want to do. I'm slightly pissed because I can't find a workaround to have a 'normal' looking youtube name.

Create a 2nd gmail with the funky name you want. are you on google+ because its that screws it up and makes you use your name. I had a name but then g+ made me get rid of it and took my name name.

Google + is fully integrated and it refuses to let you ignore it. You're not -allowed- to make a channel unless you have google + now.

I'm working on hacking up a solution now. It's probably just buried under a lot of red tape.

Sadly that's just how youtube is now, google thinks people want to use their real names online.  Apparently they don't realize for many people that can be a security risk.

When you create you're account, you have to use your name of your email.  But, you can then edit it into a new username.

Just create a 2nd gmail then that'll sort it. G+ is horrible anyways.

Using my real name online is an -extreme- security risk for me, for several reasons i clearly don't want to point out... so yeah, i'm having a problem starting up my channel thanks to this ^^

You don't need to use the real name for another gmail, i know for a fact Jefe El Guapo is not my name, the only thing you might need is a mobile no. for security reasons. It's all it asked me, dunno if its different over there.

 Yes, but if you then make a channel on youtube, it will name your channel "Jefe El Guapo". I was trying to get around it using whatever i claimed my name was.

My name definitely isn't "Daniel Almeida"

And now with this G+ thing I had to change it to Carphil BR

Well that sucks. Glad I still have eight accounts that date back to 2007.

My name is "Iamthearchmage". I cannot remember exactly how I did it but YouTube now thinks that is my real name while Google thinks my real name is Rusty Shackleford.

There's a way around it.

Go to your youtubes "settings" page in the overview tab and it will say something about unlinking your google+ account or something along those lines.

It will ask you what your youtube channel is used for. Make sure you pick personal and it will let you choose a name for the channel. It's somewhere in the settings.

I just had to do this because i made a new youtube account because my other was 6 years old.

just look it up on youtube. I created an account so that I could keep track of the videos I wanted to watch, and there was a youtube tutorial which explained how I could change it from my real name to wretchedsausage.
