Re: The Binding of Isaac
I bought it off Steam for I think $2 without the DLC a few months ago. Best deal ever. It's challenging, a lot of fun, and extremely funny. All his little nightmares between levels are so priceless.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
Its kind of like an endless randomized Zelda dungeon split into levels. The top down variety. The art style is really cartoony and a great mix of disturbing and hilarious. There's tons of items, upgrades secrets, and collectables, on top of unlockable characters. Really good stuff. It's so cheap too that you can't really go wrong if you hate it. If any of that sounds good though you probably won't hate it.
I should clarify. It's not just endless. Every game has a set number of levels and each level has a boss, then after you complete them you win the game, but what's nice is when you play again it'll be entirely different because it's randomly generated, hence it's endless. There's also tons of different bosses, so each game level bosses will be different, and you'll probably run into some you've never seen before the first 10 times or so. You also unlock groups of harder bosses on each successful finish, so there's a difficulty incentive to keep playing.
It's made by one of the guys who did Super Meat Boy, Edmund McMillen, so it's sort of that art style, and definitely that humor. He also did a really neat little flash game called Aether. He actually has a bunch of free flash games, but I was particularly impressed by Aether. The gameplay and art are both very unique, but it also does something with the medium that I've never seen done before. It's basically the video game equivalent of an unhappy child drawing to vent emotions he doesn't fully understand. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested in video games like Journey that break down those barriers in the medium.

My laptop actually has some issues with it when you get into rooms with a ton of enemies in them, but it's not a gamebreaker. The game is amazing though, but getting platinum god is going to take forever...

Re: The Binding of Isaac
My only beef is that I wish they had made the unlockable characters better. I've unlocked all of them except one and I pretty much use Isaac every time anyway. They all either have no health at all, or a ton of it and nothing else. Isaac is the only balanced one. I guess unless the one I haven't unlocked is better.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
Which one haven't you unlocked? I completely agree that Isaac is probably the best, especially with the D6 as a starting item, but other characters can be pretty fun. Judas starts out as a glass cannon with only one heart but has some nice damage and Cain gets the luck foot so he can use pills safely and almost always get something out of slot machines (if not always). They're just there to add some variety to the game once Isaac himself starts to get a bit stale.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
I think it's either Judas or Cain. I'll check
I know I have the one with the eye patch, the girl with blonde hair, and the girl that comes with the dead bird. I think maybe one other too, unless that's all of them.
Missing Cain.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
I unlocked Cain, and you're right, he is just as good if not better than Isaac. He's a bit more challenging with his low starting health, but the lucky foot makes it easier to have better item combos at the end. I think I'm on my third play now? The one where you have to go into the secret room instead of opening the big chest after you beat mom's heart. I keep dying in the last area though.
I keep getting getting crazy damage towards the end. Finding one damage item after another. Last game I had cupids arrow, chocolate milk, the small rock, **** of babylon, steven, and a magic mushroom. I was hitting like a damn truck at the end. Killed mom's heart in just a few shots. I just ended up getting screwed in the last area. I only had 4 max hearts and they just weren't giving me any life.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
Cain is my Favorite, he has the Lucky Foot, he's faster and stronger than Isaac and ony has one Heart less .
I wont soil the other Characters for you, Plastic  .
btw i really recommend getting the Devil DLC, the Bosses and Items that come with it are so much fun, the other DLC...not so much imo

Re: The Binding of Isaac
I think the only one on Steam is called Wrath of the Lamb. Is there another one?
I've got all the characters now. I really think the only ones worth using are Isaac and Cain. I used the blonde girl a bit when I first unlocked her because she has high health and the Yum Heart, but all said and done I think Isaac's better balance and Cain's power and starting item trump her.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
At first there was the Halloween update and it added a few Bosses, Levels and Items, recently Wrath of the Lamp was released but that one isn't as fun imo .
I think you already have the Halloween update, how far can you play ?

Re: The Binding of Isaac
I'm not really sure. I did the first run where Mom is the end boss, then a second where you beat mom and get another 2 levels then mom's heart is the boss, now the play I'm currently on is the one where you beat mom and her heart and a secret devil room opens up with a trapdoor to a new level if you don't open the big treasure chest that usually signifies the end of the game. I've gotten there a couple times now but I keep getting screwed in that last area and not being able to find any health and dying. Haven't seen the boss there yet so I'm not sure what it is.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
Good, you have the Halloween update .
You have to beat Moms Heart 10 Times to permanently gain acces to the last Area, you can get there randomly before.
The last Boss is my favorite battle and it has the best Music to boot

Re: The Binding of Isaac
Yeah I noticed that it didn't seem to be appearing every time. The last game I did I beat mom's heart and there was just a chest. I was pretty disappointed. Was in a great position to take the last area. Had Dr. Fetus, so I was doing crazy damage, and I had a full maxed out health bar without soul hearts.

Re: The Binding of Isaac
I only had Dr. Fetus twice in all my playthroughs, it's one of the best Items there is .
One tipp i have for you.
If you happen to be able to teleport after Moms Heart and the gate to the next level doesnt appear, Teleport, that way you can fight Moms Heart again and have another chance to get to the last Level .
