    Pyro/Dex Build Advic

Post by dominolo21 on Wed Jun 26, 2013 10:52 am

Hello! I recenetly brought Dark Souls and to this time I still have not beaten it. Each character I made ended being horrible. To fix that issue, I am trying to create a Pyromancer that will be using Balder Side Sword until he gets the Quelaag's Furysword, and the Crimson set. Here is the build so far:

    http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?b=cHlyb21hbmNlciwyNSwyMCw1MCwxMiw3MSwxMiwxMCw4LDAsMjMsMjEsMjEsMjEsMzEsMywxNTMsNDQsMCwxMTMsbm9ybWFsLG5vcm1hbCxub3JtYWwsbm9ybWFsLDAsMzAsMzgsMzYsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsNix3b29kZW4sd29vZGVuLHdvb2Rlbix3b29kZW4sMSwwLDAsMCwwLDAsMCww

Now I didn't put any points into Strength since I already meet the requirements and I just put the points into Dexterity. I would like to know that with 25 Vitality and the Crimson set if I would be able to sustain a couple blows without dying? Also, is it really worth upgrading your armor and shield or should I just focus on my weapons first.?

Thank you, if I make this build right I may finally beat the game! cheers

Pyro/dex with the Furysword is one of my favorite builds, and you should be fine beating the game with this. But, a few suggestions:

You don't need to have a dex as high as 71. I'd recommend putting a few of those points into Vit. You can survive with 25 vit, but it could be higher.

Crimson's a good set, but keep in mind that it's very light, so you really don't need Havel's ring or 50 End. Stamina stops increasing at 40 End and you don't need the extra equip load from taking it to 50. You have no poise, so maybe try the Wolf ring.

Also, in case you don't know, with the furysword and those chaos pyromancies you'll want to keep 10 humanities in your humanity counter all the time.

About upgrading armor... I don't know. I usually do. You could just put all your twinkling titanite into upgrading the crimson set, and it doesn't cost much to take the shield to +5 or +10, and the furysword takes demon titanite.

I modified your build a bit. There is no reason to take your DEX up as high as you had it. The return on the 21 levels above 50 DEX only added five more damage to the fury sword, which, at least in my opinion, is not worth the amount of time and souls needed.
There was also no reason to wear the RFaP. With Havels ring your have enough of an equip load to fast roll in some decent armor, which brings me to your choice of armor. The crimson set, although it does look badass, is not the best armor. It has decent def, but for armors of similar weight, there are better choices. The armor that I changed it to will add some poise, which is not essesntial in PvE, but it means that you can take a hit without being staggered, which is very helpful in the endgame and PvP if you play online.
Back to rings for a second. Without FaP, it opens up a ring slot which can make your build more adaptive to whatever your current situation may be. As a default, for any magic based character, I put in place Bellowing, which, combined with CoD, will nearly double the power of you pyromancy. However, if you need to you can switch it out to Rusted in the swamp, or if you want a better roll DWGR, or if you want more poise you could put in the wolf ring, which is what I would suggest if your are not going to be heavily reliant on magic.

So heres my modified version. Enjoy and good luck.

    Here you go:

    http://mmdks.com/2w05

45 Dex is the max for cast speed.  For practical scaling, 40 is the max otherwise.  Since you're pyro heavy we go 45.  Going higher is a waste.

I have re-worked your armor so that you have enough poise to take basic hits while still fast rolling.  I gave you much more health and more/better pyros.  Thanks to bellowing dragoncrest ring, your pyros will do more damage.  With power within, they'll do more still.  The furysword as pointed out is only like 5 AR weaker with so much less dex.  You similarly get no extra endurance past 40, so you'd only ever take that stat beyond that for equip weight, which you weren't even using.  This is also why we dropped havel's ring; you weren't using the weight.  If you want more poise, you can put it back on and wear some stronger armor.

I even gave you a lightweight bow and you were STILL under equip weight for fast roll.  You probably won't be using it a great deal, but it never hurts to have a nice long-ranged option on a dex build and the bow scales well off desk.  No reason not to run it with an open slot and max scaling dex.

I strongly recommend reading Reim's guide to making builds, as some thought into point distribution will *greatly* increase your impact at any given level.  The way your SL 125 build was setup it could get outclassed in a few ways by a SL55 pyro build!  That hurts.

Thank you, all of these answers helped me a lot. My last concern is if the Grass Crest Shield is good enough. Should I stick with it or get another one?

I almost always use the grass crest shield. It'll protect you well enough, and the stamina regen really helps. If you want 100% physical protection I'd go with the crest shield (also has high magic resistance) or the black knight shield (great fire resistance, but need more strength).

Yeah grass crest tends to win unless you want a greatshield or magic blocking.  Stamina is a big deal in this game.

Hey! I came up with a build that I think I would feel comfortable with. I am away for the summer and am not able to test this, but the problem is that it uses mid roll. I want to know if mid roll is viable in PvE? If not I guess I will need to change things. If you want to review the build here it is:

    http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?b=cHlyb21hbmNlciw1MCwyOCw0MCwxMiw1MCwxMiwxMCw4LDEwLDIzLDQ4LDQ3LDQ4LDIyLDE0LDE1Myw0NCwxMDcsMTEzLG5vcm1hbCxub3JtYWwsbm9ybWFsLG5vcm1hbCwwLDM4LDI3LDMwLDM5LDM2LDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDAsNix3b29kZW4sd29vZGVuLGZpcmVhLHdvb2RlbiwxLDAsMCwwLDAsMCwwLDA=

I use the Grass Crest Shield because I feel as the stamina regeneration boost is extremely powerful. Though, I am toying with the idea that once I get my Endurance to 40 or a bit lower I will go with the Blood Shield on boss fights so that I will regain some health that I lose from Power Within. The weapon was a difficult decision. I had no room for the Great Scythe which I never used. I chose the Furysword since I really liked in, though I've heard that it is a horrible end game and NG+ weapon. If this is true, is there any other weapon that can replace it and scales with Dexterity? For the head I chose the Crown of Dusk which increases my pyromancy damaage by 20%, along with the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring my pyromancies will be doing 40%-46% more damage! For the chest and legs I chose the Paladin set, which is one of the best medium armors out there. I still lacked poise so I put Havel's Gauntlets which gave me 60 poise, and along with the Wolf Ring I had 100 poise which, i think, is enough. I didn't need Havel's Ring or the Ring of Favor and Protection, with this equipment I could mid roll fine! I also added the Black Bow of Pharis just in case I needed to use a bow, I still had room so I figuered why not!

That's my PvE build, I just really need to know if mid roll is viable for PvE!thumbs up

Any roll is viable for PvE, though for 4 kings you'll want a really good stability/magic block shield if you're a tank build.

50 dex is useless.  You stop getting significant weapon scaling after 40 and you stop getting faster casting speed at 45.  Unless you want to pointlessly level up well over SL 300 you should never see dex higher than 45.

    Those links! surprised

Guys. There's this option called "Minify" in the low, left corner of the Mugen builder. It will create a link to your build which has reasonable length.
(I thought my PS3 went cuckoo at first lol!)

Will keep the minify button in mind! I will use the Crest shield when I encounter a magic user though I never had a problem with them.

I kept your armor, but made a few changes.

    • Vit 40 is more than you 25 and with RoFaP you will have a nice 1590 HP. It's enough to survive almost every OHKO attack.
    • Att 19 will make you have the same number of spells, but saves you one point.
    • End 33 is slightly lower, but more than enough, even shall you decide for different armor.
    • Str 16 in case you decide to use different weapons.
    • Dex 45 is the best for Pyromancy, because it will give you the fastest casting speed. The extra damage you get from having 71 is too little to be worth the points.

    • Always carry your source of magic in your left hand for PvP. That way, your opponent won't know if you plan to cast a spell, or attack with your weapon. It also makes it harder to backstab you, since you can counter with your weapon.
    • BSS to have a change from your QFS. People are good at parryng Curved Swords ever since the arrival of Gold Tracer, so it might be a good idea to have a weapon with different moveset as well. Not to mention people resistant to Fire damage.
    • Wolf Ring, because with Furysword, you will get hit a lot of the times and so you need to be able to tank a hit, or two to be able to trade hits.
    • Fire Tempest creates bigger pillars of fire and do more damage while costing only one Att slot.
    • Black Flame to stagger people with higher than 40 Poise and to deal with turtles. BF does 60 Poise damage, while GC does 40 Poise, however BF does less actual damage than GC. Switch between them according to what you plan to do.

This all while keeping SL 100. That way you can play with a lot of people that use SL 100 and also with people on SL 120-125. The SL difference plays little, to no role in this level of PvP, so no need to worry about it. In any case, you can use the remaining 20-25 points to level up Vit to 50, End to 40 and still have some spare points.

Sentiel the build is for PvE, but once I complete the game I will try PvP so nonetheless thanks for the reply!

So is there anything else that can be fixed? Is te armor/weapon/shield sufficient enough?

I did a lot of research and came up with this

    http://mmdks.com/39pu

I have good defense and the poise is decent, I don't really care about poise! I chose the Uchigatana because most people say it is good for NG+, but I want to know if the Falchion would work also. (PvE!)

I actually love this build. You'll do fine with it in whatever you do.

1 comment i could make is that you might wanna use another glove in your off hand for punishing kicks with great combustions in pvp even if you might not be interested in it yet.

I perfected it even more. The set looks nice and has 68 poise. For PvE, I think I have finally found my build! Let's hope the Falchion can kill Gwyn and in the future Artorias!
