Did the forest get dumber?

I jsut played dark souls on the ps3 at a friends house and used his crappy, half made character that was sl 40-something, had unupgraded armor, and weapons that were upgraded to 4 or 5.

I invaded in the forest and was able to kill gank squads of 2 or 3 without much trouble at all.  My only weapons were poison arrows and a level 1 spiked mace.  And the forest trees.

I remember that gank squads used to be unbeatable even with the entire forest trying to kill them.  What's the deal?

....This is unacceptable.  The forest is getting nicer?  I've never heard of something so ridiculous.  The atmosphere must have really started to deteriorate after I left.  I have to get my copy of souls back and start reminding that the forest is my territory and should be kept in a state of perpetual calamity.

The short is answer is it's always been stupid.The slightly longer answer is you played on PS3,it likely lacks the nasty people I always find on "The Box".That actually sounds awesome though,gankers that are easy to beat.I'd love to see good and bad players instead of the usual cheap/cheaters.

What SL should I host in the forest?  50? 99?

I wish I could find good fights in the forest though I don't much care to 1V1 there.I have a million and one posts about hackers at this point I know but they are the reason I can't enjoy invading there anymore.I don't go for 2V1s for the challenge,I do it to put those guys down and not feel bad about backstabbing them or parrying.And BTW,I see dragon hackers all the time,I now assume every dragon hacks and am right every time.Bad invasions make me a sad panda.

All the gankers at SL50 are idiots, they're all easy prey and generally underequipped. Doesn't matter to them though, since the forest invaders at that SL are even weaker and more poorly equipped.

You want to make the forest more malicious you say? Here, take this build. http://mmdks.com/2tnw Should be self explanatory, just enough health to poise through a hit and land a tickstab for a total of 2100+ damage. I've had WoG alone hit more than 1300 damage on a counter and 650 through a shield, bs with the PW rapier is upwards of 1100 damage easy.

I got invaded by two AFK Forest Hunters. I booted them off the edge. o.o I am not sure what is going on.

They're afk farmers. Real scum. Basically, they equip the ring, go afk, and get free souls whenever the host dies from anything (usually a decent Forest Hunter).

The only thing that can stop them is the glitch that makes them spawn as Darkwraiths. Now they'll lose everything Also try the Dark Hand. Who knows, they might be stupid enough to be carrying some humanities.

also if the afk'ers are wearing armor hitting them does damage it a little bit, in short use your bare fist and punch them till their dead, they should accumulate around 200+ durability damage if you're willing to take the time.

lol now that you mentioned it, acid cloud would be perfect in this situation. I hope they bring the troll spear back from Demons is DS2 for these kind of things :razz:

I wish that they used a mechanic similar to the one in CoD, where, if you just stand still for a while (i.e. not moving, changing camera angle), you get kicked from the game.

They moved to the township.  Invade there; tons of ganking.

Also I've seen a ton of gank squads in the preforest w. Hydra and Butterfly; one I hid from so long, one of the gankers started suiciding.  Got 900k+ souls every time (the host kept resummoning him).  I traded them for loot so that I would stop hiding.

Yes, they moved to Township. Lots of cheap arse invaders and hosts there. Hosts usually make gank squads, and invaders just run down into the mobs to heal when you beat them down. I mean %99 of the time, they just get their *** kicked and run down into the mobs.
Today I spent more time chasing d*ckwraiths around Oolacile than actually fighting them. Seriously, this one guy seemed to have so much experience in running away, he was practically doing parkour or freerun or whatever you call it. He did like 4-5 trick jumps to get away. I fell down to my death while chasing after him. (Parkour is dangerous kids mmkay.)

Sounds like people are actually digging the awesome 2 vs 2 this game has to offer.

It's a crying shame the way some people talk about the forest sometimes.  It has such potential.  Outside of Dark Anor, its the only way you can get a real 2 vs 2 where you cannot hurt your teammate.  You can't do it any other way.

Oh well, I don't blame the catbros for how they feel, I mean Shiva kinda makes it all clear lol.

Also, I follow a procedure when I host there, and I always get the fights I want, the way I want them.  I love fighting a catbro after watching them kill my phantom.  If they win they're juiced up and ready to fight.

Those victories are the sweetest to me.  Sometimes they'll even leave you a gift for letting them reheal.

I didn't mean to sound like I am looking down on people who love the ganking / anti-ganking aspect of it. 
I wasn't trying to come off that way.
