Halo is balls.
People say how innovative it is- the game's used the same mechanics for it's last 5 games. No advancement, just more pretentious bull **** in the form of a nonsensical story and a protagonist so outdated he doesn't even talk.
And it tries to say it's a sci-fi like shooter. It's nothing of the like! Where's my guns that throw electricity, shoot balls of fire, turn things to ice?
I'll tell you where, under the tombstone entitled FPS INNOVATION.

The Magnum lost it's scope and got a fire rate update in Halo 2, they added Duel Wielding, they introduced the Battle Rifle, a useable Wraith, the Brutes, Brute weaponry, the SMGs, the Carbine, etc.
In Halo 3 the Magnum received a fire rate and magazine capacity nerf, they added the Hornet, they nerfed the shotgun, the Assault Rifle returned, etc.
In Halo:Reach they introduced the DMR, the Needle Rifle, the Falcon, the Revenant, the Grenade Launcher, the Concussion Rifle, the Focus Rifle, etc. They also added bloom, which in itself is a pretty big update, seeing as it changed how you used precision weapons, they added a rocket warthog, they updated Forge mode, added Armor Abilities etc.
In Halo 4 they added Loadouts, they introduced the Storm Rifle, a bunch of Promethean weapons, a few new vehicles, etc.
It doesn't need fire guns and ice guns to be a sci-fi shooter, the term refers to games that take place in the future, in futuristic settings, which usually span several planets, solar systems, or galaxies, and usually feature aliens as enemies.
Halo has all of those, it's a sci-fi shooter.
And Master Chief is a silent protagonist, he's supposed to be quiet because he doesn't have a reason to talk.
If silent protagonists are bad then Gordon Freeman is a terrible protagonist, the chosen undead is a terribly protagonist, etc.

I used to play with the MLG yoloswagalicious people, so I've got some of the updates between Halos memorized.
Although I can't say I'm happy about the removal of the SMGs, Dual Wielding those things was fun as mess.
