Just coming back, could use help as to Build/wep

Ok so for lack of a better area I'm posting this here.

I am just coming back to the game after being away about a year. I barely remember what I did before and am going to just start over.

I do want to pvp alot later, but I'm not really looking for any exact build (unless you have one of course).

More so just an idea of what stats/beginning weapon I should go for. I want my character to generally have light armor and be more on the quick side, as well as a weapon that is fairly quick as well. If anyone could give me an idea what stats I should focus on while building up, and what weapon or direction I should be building towards to use that weapon (hopefully one that is fairly effective at pvp)...I would greatly appreciate it.

You want to stay quick which I assume is <25% weight. Which means you want smaller weapons. I'd go with either pure dex and use katanas/curved sword, or go with dex/strength and use spears or 1handed swords.

The balder sidesword is one of the best weapons in the game and can be farmed off the balder knights in the undead church. The Uchigatana drops from the undead merchant if you want to kill him after you buy everything from him. The lightning spear drops from the maneater chest in Sen's fortress.


Katanas: Bleed damage. Fast. Low stamina consumption. Easy to use and handle.

Spears: Medium damage. Fast enough to keep up with the fastest dex weapons. Longest reach in the game. Able to poke behind a shield. Can't be parried if you hit someone with the tip. Low stamina consumption.

Rapiers: They're like shorter, faster spears with higher backstab/riposte damage.

1handed short swords: Low stamina consumption. Fast. Balder side sword is one of the best weapons in the game.

I'd definitely look into those weapons first. But if you have an idea already, just say so and I/other people can tell you the pros and cons of that weapon in particular.

For rings I would suggest Ring of FaP definitely. Then either havel or wolf ring to help you stay under <25% weight and get some poise.

EVerything Lunar said, but I'd just play for 15-20 hours, consider it a trash build and start over...we've all been there.

Thanks for the info, it took me a few days as I wasnt sure what I wanted.

Anyways I am currently running the uchigatana, and man do I love this sword...though the R2 attack seems to be lacking in my opinion ( I normally always use R1). I have so far upgraded it to +10, and basically wondering how much further I should upgrade it? I have embers from the different bosses like the butterfly, quelaag, sif, etc...but Im not sure if I should upgrade it with those as it will take away my dex bonus.

Could anyone give me a basic idea of how I should proceed weapons upgrade wise?

Stick with Normal upgrades if you're investing points in Dex.

Are you using it 1 handed or 2 handed? Because the 1 handed R2 is a MONSTER
