Okay, since my Havel build was probably gonna fail pretty hard, I decided to come up with a Tarkus build instead.
I've been invading in Anor Londo, and I think nearly all my kills as Havel were counterstabs. So many backstab fishers when you're fat-rolling with the greatshield that has the highest defence of all and a weapon with only 1 sweeping attack that you'll never pull off because it requires a dodge-roll first... At least I taught those noobs a lesson: backstab fishing doesn't work against anyone with decent skill. Try rollstab instead.
But Tarkus has sweeping and thrust attacks! So I'll be fine cosplaying as him.

just quick question. if the host drops weapons what if one of the player's don't have the required stats to use it? or is it optional whether you use it or not?

They already said it is optional though I kinda wish it wasn't. My feeling is that people are going to end up naturally favoring their own weapons, effectively killing the event's uniqueness. I, for one, plan on showing up there without any weapons.
