Stray demon is a pain... Empty Stray demon is a pain...

    Post by Micha369 Fri Mar 08, 2013 9:38 am

    Hello folks,

    I'm a melee fighter with level 60:

    vitality 20
    strength 20
    Endurance 30
    Dexterity 30

Anyway, I'm struggling with this stray demon! I have seen a tutorial video and everything seems clear. I know, what to do.
But I always get before the demon. He starts performing his butt smash and I
don't know where I am. Am I before him, am I behind him? He often hits
me with his butt and this does a lot of damage!
I try to roll away, but it is pure luck that I get away from his fat, massive body!
Or this one: I'm behind him. He starts flying and rotating around his
vertical axis, he lands and I'm suddenly just in front of him and not
even near but far. So it is impossible to flee back behind him! Do you
    know what I mean?

I don't know what to do!

I cannot hear all the comments anymore: "This is an easy guy, simply follow the
pattern, you can even manage him with very low level." Yes, this might
true, but you need a lot of luck!
And you have to start over and over again! This is frustraiting! I want to control a fight not depend on luck!

    Thanks for any help!

    best wishes

Your best bet against these giant, fat blobs of demons is to fight unlocked, you get a clear view of their gigantic behinds and can pivot to block whenever they decide to throw their ranged magic AOE's.

Unlocked is the way to go~ Get a clearer view, and because of how big he is you don't really need the auto-aim from being locked anyway.

Then it's just a matter of practice, until you can get him to loop his butt-slam, then poke his HP down~

Shun is giving you some great advice.

First off, get Crest Shield, it can block Stray Demon's AoE blast, but you have to manually face the epicenter of the blast, which is NOT his hammer (or whatever the weapon he has).

He's weak to bleed, so if you have anything that can bleed him use it. Three consecutive attacks = bleed out.

As Shun said, fight him unlocked. It will prevent camera shenanigans and you can use it to sprint (yes movement +O/B) around him, which is the best way to avoid his AoEs and lure him into doing his buttslam.

Buttslam does a slight physical AoE upon landing, but after he lands, you can hit him without worrying about his attacks. Also, if he stops moving and raises his weapon to stab in the ground for AoE blast, you can safely attack him before and after the blast. Just be careful, because the blasts stays in the place a split second longer then you see it, meaning you can still get damaged if you come to him too soon.

Lastly, train a thing called Ukemi. It's simple trick, just press O/B + direction upon landing and if you time it correctly, your character will not do the usual landing animation and do a roll in coresponding direction instead. This can save your life if Stray Demon decides to welcome you with his AoE right off the bat.

    Good luck! winking

If you have the stats, get a kat (or even a Bandit Knife) and use it to bleed him (he bleeds easily) That is how I beat him with low level toons. I actually like the butt smash. I've got the timing and distance down and it is free hits for me.

Crest to block and circle around him and stab him in his big pimply, if you've got the int cast fall control to not take the initial fall damage(can't buff though until it wears off). Always thought his brother Gary in the demon ruins was tougher.

    What is the O/B?
I have LB, LT, RB, RT, X, A, B, Y, direction cross and the two joysticks.
    (XBOX-controller)

    Thanks

    O is the PS3 equivalent of Xbox's B.
I didn't know what platform you're on, so I wrote both.

Finally Stray Demon is done!!! You hint not to lock him was most helpful!

So now I'm human again. This guy made me furious raging! Now I can calm down!

    Until next boss!

    Cheers!

I try these tricks tomorrow when I go up against him using only the short bow.

I think Stray Demon is easier than Firesage Demon because there are no obstacles scattered around the area to get hung up on.

Stray demon is pretty easy. use the crest shield and keep behind it. just attack once or twice after he does an attack. for his "butt slam" just back up it will always get you out of the way. I beat him today at SL15 with Gravelord Servant Sword.

It's easy as long as you take your time.
