    Whoa, really unforseen? Isn't the same limit applied to the red soap stone where you need to be within 10 + 10% of a level?

    The painted world is in anor londo, you need the peculiar doll from the prison you escaped from to open the world up, its optional but a pretty good spot for some nice items.

    The Claymore has been my "go to" weapon for my first playthrough. You really have to wait for the enemy to break their guard before taking a swing. Or, if you're feeling ballsy enough, you can 2 hand it and break their guard through shear will.

    ok i tried a bit more whit swords and you relly need to wait for a opening before strike..or you end up open for enemys to strike you...

    but well practice is good doing it on silver knights in londo

    I'm not 100% on this but if you are in the midst of a combo and bring up your shield it seems to cancel out the move set. Once I started to notice this my sword game improved a lot.

    also the boss of the painted world is optional, but you can't leave the area till you reach her room, once there she'll tell you how to leave or you can attack and initiate the battle.
    items of importance in painted world:
    firesurge pyromancy
    velka's rapier
    pardoners armor
    red sign soap stone
    dried finger (allows more invasions)
    vow of silence miracle
    dark ember (used to make occult weapons,very high faith scaling)
    priscillas dagger (cut from the bosses tail in combat)
    xanthous armor (obtained behind boss after killing an npc invader)
    notched whip (obtained from the npc invader)
    acid surge pyromancy (damages enemy armor)
    painting guardian armor (pitiful defense but amazing resistances)
    blood shield(provides an anti-poison/toxic/bleed boost)
    souvenirs of reprisal (farmed from the harpy enemies)

    Nope, she'll tell you how to get out and she can be spared. She can hold her own in combat and can be a bit hard the first time fighting her, more so if you are trying to cut off the tail.

    60-80? Oh and have toxic moss when you do go. You'll encounter some bloated hollows that when they die release a mist, maybe.. a sword swing away will get you poisoned with toxic.

    You can roll back after the final blow to avoid the mist from them.

    Also using fire spells to kill them will negate the toxic explosion.

    Hi - Just reading this thread and yes a black night resides in the undead burg guarding the blue tearstone ring - he's rock hard tho... i ran past him, collected the ring and died.... again..... i have been reapeatedly back in an attempt to kill him but he's still way too hard for my current level.

    I lured him with Drake sword in hand (hands actually) and every time he swung I dropped back and blasted him with the R2 attack. Killed him "easily" for real low level. Other option is to lure up to the area at the base of the sniper tower where's there room to circle and backstab him.

    Killed my first black knight with a +5 Claymore and up'ed my level to 28 with strength and dexerity happy
    One thing i have noticed is that some people seem to be able to get much further at a lower level -- Those flippin Bell Tower Gargoyles are still kicking my ***, but now i can actually defeat the Skeletons in the graveyard i'm exploring the catacombs. Ohhh and dying ---- alot.....

    You kinda need a weapon with divine power to advance far into the catacombs. It is possible without as my room mate once proved but pretty hard.

    As for the gargoyles if you are really quick and talked to Soliare / freed Lautrec you can turn human and summon both to help you, Lautrec is on the middle platform between the ladders behind you, Solaire is next to the fog gate. They can easily turn the tides for you and if you do get invaded will probably beat the guy into the ground if they are a griefer.

    If you don't want to be invaded you can easily unplug yourself from the internet and go human without fear.

    I didn't know Lautrec could be summoned =/

    And for the Catacombs you need the Astora Straight Sword so the skeletons wont revive

    Divine works great. My first catacomb trip I decided not to use one. I had to tread carefully, scout with a bow and kill necromancers from afar or rush in to do the job and turn to face the skellie group that had swarmed. It's possible but divine is a lot easier.

    Regarding success rates at low levels and how some people seem able to do a ton more than others. A couple things to boost your confidence. Stories of low level success usually leave out the many failed attempts that came before it. Also, I am a stubborn a$$ who will keep trying if I think something is possible.

    I mentioned how I killed the Black Night in the burg with the Drake Sword. I have now killed him three times (once per playthrough) and he still has the advantage in our all time confrontation record. I ran once and noticed he followed me a LONG way before giving up which led me to try squaring off outside the hallway.

    Prior to that observation I noticed that the treasure behind him seemed accessible by jumping from the bridge where the fire throwers assault you. Turns out I was right but it took about twenty tries to hit the jump just right. I tried the same thing near the first Blighttown bonfire. There's a pillar with a ledge that looks like you should be able to land on it. With the fire there I figured no biggie to pick up my bloodstain. Many many times later I determined there is no hidden treasure on that ledge.
