Pure Magic Build

I have been playing about with a pure witch build, 50 int and all at sl 62. It's a lot of fun, I'm using summons to get through some bosses and helping out others where I can. She's great, she deals tons of damage but one hit and she's dead. I've beaten all the lords and I'm going to do the dlc next.

My question is this: what do I level up next? I'm low on end and vit and my str and des are just enough to use the moonlight butterfly horn. Does dex have an effect on casting speed ? Is it worth levelling faith a bit and using a Velka talisman? I'd just be interested in what the community thinks about where to take a glass cannon pve build.

Yes dexterity has an effect on casting speed, but only between level 35 and 45. Before and after that it does nothing. At 45 dex you get about a 15% casting time reduction. It's very useful, but might not be worth all those skillpoints if you don't have some weapon that scales with dex too. The moonlight butterfly horn is a great choice of weapon though, so don't exchange it just cause of my dexterity comment.
Velka's talisman might be fun, but although miracles will scale with int, you'll still need to reach the minimum FAITH requirement to use them. So keep that in mind.

I'm having 45 Dex and 50 Int and I can't say a bad thing about it.
It was well worth the investment.

Do note that the armor is purely cosmetic, I wear it because I like it. Sacrificing a ring slot is no problem for me. If I had to wear anything else, it would be light enough to allow me to fastroll and I would equip Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, or Wolf Ring in place of Havel's.

I'm using a combination of the witch set, the gold hemmed set and the antiquated set, depending on the environment. I'm usually pairing that up with the bellowing dragoncrest and one of the wolf ring, the hawk ring or havels. I'm using Logan's catalyst and the moonlight butterfly horn +5. Shield is either the heater or the crest and I carry a magic longbow with poison and wooden arrows.

The idea is that I want to fight on my terms. I can't afford to rush in, so I need to draw enemies to me where possible. I have a lot of power in my set of Logan's spells, so I can ohko most normal baddies and I did the Four Kings by only killing 3 of them. Problem is, one hit and I'm dead.

Me? I'd level up Dex to 45, Fth to 28, then put the rest into Vit. I use this for PvP often and it absolutely destroys people.

Interesting. I made a similar build recently, but started as a pyromancer and made my hand ax enchanted instead of wating for a boss weapon. also, at this point I'm around lvl 100 and just starting to put points in vitality after discovering as a sunbro that the NG+ gaping dragon can one shot me with a tail whip , as can NG gwyn's jump+horizontal slash, as can NG manus' hands in the air slam, and a whole array of other things. (used ring of favor and protection for manus, he was a pain till I decided to dodge instead of block :shock:) But you really can dish out immense amounts of damage with just intelligence, even though those moonlight butterflies in the crystal cavern are stingy bastards (10 humanity and gold covetous serpent ring, not one slab :x) But keep at it. I advise choosing a secondary offensive stat and raising that along with vitality, since stamina won't mean much unless you go with heavy weapons.

I'm a pure caster , even though I wield a sword as a side arm. I use Velka's Talisman and am working on raising my Faith to 48 for Bountiful Sunlight. My pyro flame is maxed out, as well. I basically cycle between miracles, sorcery and pyromancy as the situation requires. I think starting out as a Sorcerer is the best way to begin since the Attunement really helps more than a fireball (you have more than enough Soul Arrows, anyway).
