Because if you make him drop onto an enemies head it deals fire damage. Has been known for ages, sorry sparkly. Though it is a little odd as it means he has been down to Izalith and back up.

He was probably given that to make sure he doesn't instantly die in Centipede fight. I don't think From intended it for lore reasons, but who knows? But it was confirmed by From that the son of the Witch of Izalith is Ceaseless Discharge.

I honestly think the debs didn't think we'd actually be able to find out their rings. I don't think they even meant for us to go THIS in depth about enemie, systems, weapons, you name it. I just think that the devs and producer will keep in mind how far fans will go for lore and the likewise.
