Fighting against spear users

I was in the burg today and kept getting slaughtered by this one person. He would just hit me once with the dragon slayer spear and since he would attack at maximum range I couldn't really parry him.
Is there any way to kill these people as a fast rolling strength build who does not use magic as I found it impossible.

Is there any way as a non-magic user is it completely impossible as I am unfortunately, pure melee.
Would poison arrows work on them or would it just be impossible.

Get a lot of poise then, over 100.

Poison arrows could be good to pressure the spear user just don't underestimate that they have range as well, especially something like the DSS. In the Burg, for instance, it might not work so well.

Forward roll+parry.

Sprint at them while blocking. Once you get close to them, wait for them to roll. At this point, try to time your attack so you can hit them during or after there roll for counter damage. If your weapon is too slow to hit them during that time (Like an Ultra Great Sword), then keep sprinting at them and hit them when they're unprepared to react. It seems like no one ever uses this tactic, and it works so well that it's a shame more people don't do it.

Its impossible if he knows what he is doing. You pretty much need him to make multiple mistakes just for you to hit him.

Well, whenever either one of you rolls and are close to one another, try parrying. Better yet, you could use a spear as well(preferably the Demon's spear since it's been said that it's longer than the Dragonslayer Spear, although I can't really tell). You could try turtling as well, if all else fails.

Also, this may be a very specific situation, but while I was trying to clear Sen's Fortress, someone cosplaying as the Iron Golem invaded me, and when he used his Golem Axe WIND SCAR, I rolled in and tried to roll attack him with my spear, but he parried right after I rolled past the Golem Axe R2 and he ended up stomping me with his Hornet Ring riposte.

Although of course, I did let my guard down because of the fact that I was just trying to rush through Sen's Fortress and because (Although I won't deny that I'm probably just not that good at PvP) I wasn't in my PvP setup. And I learn from my mistakes.

The same guy invaded me again and was still cosplaying as Iron Golem in Anor Londo, and I won.
