Trouble with Kalameet Empty Trouble with Kalameet

Post by Mokyun Sat Dec 08, 2012 2:28 pm

    Well first post yay~

nonetheless i am having massive trouble with Kalameet.
    My stats are:
    SL 80
    VIT: 12
    ATM:16
    END: 35
    STR: 16
    DEX:29
    RES:15
    INT:10
    FAITH: 30

I mainly rolled throughout the entire game to avoid damage, but Kalameets patterns are so frustrating >.<
I mainly relied on my +15 Uchi + Sunlight blade but i heard kalameet has high lightning resistance...

So the other weapons i have were the Blackknight sword +5 and a Lifehunt +5 but they are both slow :/

Any help would be appreciated~ I contemplated just not fighting kalameet because i don't want anything from him... but i just have to kill him!

    Edit: My armor is also:
    Mask of the child
    Armor of artorias +5
    Gauntlets of artorias +5
    Lord blades waistcloth +5
    Grasscrest shield
    Ring of favour and protection
    Havels ring

His patterns are pretty obvious once you get the hang of it.

    WARNING! WALL OF TEXT AHEAD!

If you get near him from the front, he;ll swipe at you to your right. Just roll towards him and attack once or twice if you have the chance. He'll usually do a second swipe at the other direction once you've dodged the first one.

When you see him pause for a second or two, he's gonna fly up and breath flames on the ground. Just roll away from him 3 times. You'll be well away from the blast radius. If Kalameet's head jerks back slightly, he'll do either one of four flame attacks. One will be a straight blast. If you're directly in fornt of him, just roll to the side. The other is a slow tracking flame blast that'll move from your right to left. Great time to get a hit in. Third one is he gets up on his hind legs and breaths flames directly in front of him. Get to his belly and take a couple of swipes. The last one is he runs up ahead of you and does a similar blast as the second one. This one's pretty easy. Once he gets behind you, just walk back a little and you're safe.

Lastly, his flying maneuver. Dodge to the side once when you see that his head to coming near you. Easy to dodge. Kalameet's special attack that doubles your damage has a pretty obvious tell similar to the third flame attack. Just roll to the side.

If you're aiming for the tail, stay in front of him. Not too near or far, because you want to bait his flying attack. If this succeeds, sometimes he'll slam his tail down if you're directly behind him. Move away from the slam and cut it off. You can cut it off while it's in mid-air with a weapon with good reach like the BK Halberd. It'll take a couple of tries, just don't get impatient because he likes to take his time. Hope this helps. =)

EDIT: In case you didn't know, his flames are all magic damage so a good magic res shield like the Crest Shield works wonders. If you have Blossoms, use them instead of the Grass Crest Shield.

It wouldn't hurt for you to switch off to a shield that's more meant to ward off damage either. Something with 100% physical damage reduction, high stability, and decent fire reduction. The Black Knight Shield works well, but so would a number of other things. Dodging is good, but with Kalameet it really helps to be able to block and hold your ground as well. The Flame Stoneplate ring can help too.

You might consider just summoning too. There are tons of players who love fighting Kalameet, myself included, that would be happy to help. It's a better alternative to just skipping the fight all together.

That's not entirely true. Flame defensive equips help a great deal. I've implemented them several times now.

Really?! Sweet! I've never liked blocking Kalameet because my tank always takes a huge beating from him.

When I fought him with my tank, which was the last time I fought him, he was 1HKOing me with the AoE he does when he flies straight up in the air and breaths fire downwards. I was just too slow to get out of the way in my heavy armor, and it was breaking my shield guard. So I equipped the Flame Stoneplate Ring and the Gold Hemmed Hood, and it went from killing me in one shot, at around 1200 HP, I think at the time, to only taking away about half my health.

I don't doubt that it does magic damage also, but flame protection definitely helped me out.

I've never paid attention to the damage resistances of that fight but for some reason I always thought that his attacks were magical. But I guess they aren't if fire resistance is helping.

I mean the fire is black and the DLC is all about dark magic and just picturing him shooting dark magic out of his mouth at you is awesome.

I equate it to dark flame, but I guess all said and done it doesn't make too huge a difference. Physical protection helped me also. I didn't try magical, but if people are saying it works, I'm sure it does.

Yes, it does. Whenever i guard it's flames, the Crest Shield decreases the damage taken by a lot!

I've been using the SKSh when I've been fighting him as a summon, and it works pretty well. Works great against his physical attacks, but just okay against his fire. Maybe I'll try the Crest next time and see if it's more effective.

On one character I killed him before Gough shot him down, so I had to block his flames every time he flew past. I tested out a variety of shields and armor, and came to the conclusion that his fire deals both physical and magical damage. I believe the stone greatshield and the crest shield blocked the same amount, with their reduction for phys and mag being the same. Fire defense didn't help at all if I remember correctly, but this should be easy to test with flash sweat applied.

Post by PlasticandRage Sun Dec 09, 2012 1:55 pm

I'm trying to be summoned for him now. I'm just going to try the spell stoneplate and the flame stoneplate and see how each fares. I'll post my results.

Edit: You're right. Magic protection is more effective, but not by a lot. I allowed myself to be hit by the same attack twice, each time wearing a different ring, and the spell stoneplate guarded me for 40 more damage than the flame, and the flame guarded me for about 100 more damage then neither.

Those are just estimates though. I didn't have time to go into my status page each time during the fight, so I was just counting the ticks on my health bar and estimating. I was using the attack where he flies away from you, then spins towards you and breaths fire in a wide arc. Neither ring took about 6 ticks, flame ring took about 4 ticks, and spell ring took about 3 1/2. All in all, neither of the rings were super effective.

Actually looking at it now, my original numbers are probably pretty bad estimates of how much health each tick represents. According to what I'm seeing now, each one is roughly 25 HP, so I was taking about 150 with nothing, 100 with the FSP, and between 75 and 50 with the SSP.
