So I just tried GSoA...

I've always loved the weapon, conceptually as artorias has some of my favorite lore, this larger than life knight. So I decided to run some tests with his weapon of choice and honestly I'm very underwhelmed... PvP wise this weapon deals too low damage at sl 120 for it to be worth the investment, as well as it's lack of speed, this coupled with the outrageously slow R2 attack, and I'm this close to calling it useless for PvP. I was testing it with a 25 int 30 faith build with 40 vit and end, am I simply using it wrong, has someone had success with this weapon?

gsoa is awesome but it doesnt shine until youre sl 200 or more.

that's what I feared, I'd heard it mentioned that it could be used with a specialized build at 120, so I tried it, I guess it'll just have to be used for PvE and high level PvP...

ive seen specialized builds at sl 120 but even then they do around 300 or 400 of damage per hit which is pretty lame.

GSoA still isn't the best even at sl 200 honestly, still prefer +10 fire Great-sword myself.

also just saying Great-Sword +15 with Charcoal = 439 damage while Great-Sword +10 Fire = 440 damage whatup?

Yeah I scrapped a GSoA build when I figured out that by the time the scaling reached an acceptable point the char would be too high level to be really useful in most places.

LOL because you guys put points in STR and DEX. What a mistake! GS of Artorias scales B with Faith and Int! Try puting points in those ones, at sl 200 no weapon does more damage, only buffed.

Thats at 50 Str, 40 Dex.

40str 30+ Faith = 500+ (Don't remember exactly, it's my faith build, but I'm gonna do an other one, cause the intel and dex required made me sacrifice some vit)
It scales mostly with faith and int + there's a lot of weps better than your great sword man, my velka's rapier does the same (even more I think) and am SL 120...

Str 50
Dex 40
Int 50
Fth 40

GreatSword +15 still does more damage than GSoA

With out loading up and hitting the trees enemies in Forest, GreatSword + 15 = 400~ while GSoA = 350~


Yes I know in Pve GSoA > GReatSword because of speed but in PvP GreatSword > GSoA because of Poise.

Edit may I add these are one handed non buffed hits.

I'm referring to a basic one handed R1 no running, no nothing boosting it.

Thinking about it, if you are using it for PvP you're probably going to want to two hand it, and do dashing swings and then back off, and maybe some R1 if you get a stagger. Otherwise you just leave yourself open and look silly.

I use it alot for PvE and love it, PvP wise no. I perfer to get in close and wail, and it doesn't have the attributes I'm looking for. I don't even see it becoming viable at 200, it seems better for 400+, if anything 600+. It's an endgame kind of weapon and isn't very good until then.

I've seen its AR with all its scaling stats at 99, still has less than my DMB buffed deamons great machete at SL 125.

Heck, my claymore beats it when buffed and its moveset doesn't suck.

Yhea, strongest scaling for high levels my foot.

2 points why it's good.

1) It's most powerful at SL200
2) and more importantly it looks badass.

My sl 253 build deals ~ 600 base damage. I two hand it in pvp. I'm scrapping the build because its no fun.

the sword can be utterly devastating in the right hands and with right build

i do 700 damage a hit with my lvl 216 char because it requires you having a balanced ammount of STR,DEX,INT,FAITH and thats that if you just spend it on one stat the sword will lose a lot of effectivenes

due to the 120 builds not being all rounders the sword is never used

oh and that outrageous slow attack can be pretty devastating,specially when the guy is on a dead end you just used it and BAM he guy takes over 1000 damage from my hit
and it knocks the guy down too


useless for pvp- yes,sort of,for lvl 120 anyways

but as i never cap myself i can use the sword's full potential


but why would you even try to use it on lvl 120 anyway? why don't you go use a BKGA,Katana with buff,elemental weapon like 70% of the community does?

to cut it short you cannot use the sword on its full power on lvl 120 and if you capped yourself anyways the sword is probably not meant for you

quite frankly im only using it because it makes me remember the blueblood sword from demon's souls as some people know already

The r2 is EPIC if you can land it! I landed it in pvp once, the guy was coming around a blind corner and I went for it. It knocks them back and does massive damage.

it is one of the most powerfull weapons in the game that does not need to be buffed

and the scaling starts going down when you get to 40 on one of the stats it scales for it will start scaling less off that stat and thats about it

so with 99 with every stat using the sword wouldn't be too different from having the stats at 50

and as i said it doesn't need to be buffed where almost all weapons to reach 700 damage normally you'd need to use DMB on it or sunlight blade which are temporary


the sword is like a Permanent buffed weapon and thats about it

I cap some characters and not others, and I do so for the online features. I wanted to use it because I thought it would be a versatile build and somewhat unique for 120, then I found it was useless at that range (btw I hate that the vast majority of the community is so very cookie cutter and has an insane amount of people that use the very same weapon and strategy... it's maddening)

Scudman is right this sword wasnt made for people who like to make elemental weapons and vit builds and cap at 120. If you play like this, don't create a thread just to complain about the sword. You never passed sl 120 and say the scaling doesnt work -___-

From personal experience the is no variety on LVl 120 PVP just people with vit or mage builds with elemental weapons,katanas or BKGA

thats the main weapons that are the most used and thats about it

now on high lvl PVP from what i've seen it has more variety everyone uses a weapon of their liking and not only BKGA with heavy armor or Katans buffed or Lightning weapons or moonlight greatsword and spells that will unfairly one-hit kill you
