Dark Souls Design Works interview Empty Dark Souls Design Works interview

Post by sinspaw Tue Nov 13, 2012 8:40 am

    Hey fellas,

Just wanted to share a thread I found at giant bomb forums, which is a translation of an interview with Miyazaki with a couple of other artists as well.

    Dark Souls Design Works Translation:
    - Creating the world Part 1/2
    - Creating the world Part 2/2
    - NPCs and Monsters Part 1/2
    - NPCs and Monsters Part 2/2
    - Weapons and Equipment Part 1/2
    - Weapons and Equipment Part 2/2

    Interesting read!

Oh thank you for finding this! I've been looking for a translation forever with no actual luck. Now I can go and read this to know what they are talking about in the interviews in the book.

@PlasticandRage Apologies if you've already posted something similar. I haven't been on the forums that long, and just thought that that interview was interesting for people who hadn't seen it yet.

@Tolvo That book looks unbelievably gorgeous, definitely ordering that sometime soon. The translation is through google yet it looks remarkably coherent, so I'll have a proper read later, thanks.

I really enjoyed the part about architecture, since I've been to the locations they brought up as influence, I always wondered... but yes great links.

So I've just got to the part about the Painted World. According to Miyazaki, Priscilla was being chased. Let the Archive-goers use that to solidify some theories then winking

^ I second that. They said they didn't like the final version of Gwyn either though, which I don't entirely agree with. According to Miyazaki, they wanted that battle to be like a gauntlet that drew upon your accumulated experience playing the game, and required all the different skills you learned in order to overcome the challenge, and they were disappointed it didn't come out that way. I can see where they're coming from, but I still love that battle. It's truly epic if you're not just trying to parry him the whole time.
