Best weapon?

Well I guess the game is too complex to just state "this is the best weapon", but in this first playthrough of mine I've gone through more than half the game and I've still not found any better weapon than a Black Knight Sword I found quite soon in the undead parish.

Is it really that good, or am I missing something? When I was low level around SL25 the only weapon up to par I found was the red dragon tail sword, though it didn't level up with me and ended up being totally useless. The only other weapon I've found -currently I've just killed Ornstein and Smough- that was interesting was a crystal halberd, but the durability thing is terrible.

The BKS might be a bit slow, but the amount of damage it deals is so beyond anything, that I wonder if I'm missing anything, or if I should go all the way down taking some normal weapon and upgrading it to +15 or something like that.

If you want a relatively fast great sword maybe try the Claymore. It's also relatively early in the game and can be upgraded any way you want. Some people swear by them, but I've never liked the BK weapons.

All of the Black Knight weapons are fantastic. If you're lucky enough to get the sword, greatsword, or halberd to drop early it really reduces the difficulty throughout most of NG. The fact that they scale with you keeps them viable as long as you want to use them, too.

Their claim to "best weapon" is at least as valid as any other weapon in the game.

What are your stats?

Thanks to scaling every class has weapons that'll do over 600 at 40 of the stat. The BK weapons offer more damage at low levels because of their high base damage however once you level past the minimum they're quickly out damaged. If you raise strength by one point for instance the Man serpent greatsword +15 will out damage it and be buff-able.

I'm not saying they're not viable weapons, just saying I don't like them. I think for end game, when your build is getting close to completion, there's usually a better way to go to suit whatever stats you've compiled. That's just my opinion.

^ I second that. The Man-Serpent GS is also a wonderful choice.

If you're talking about a specific build then the weapon(s) it's built for are always going to be the best, of course. Overall, though, for someone who isn't yet focused on a specific weapon, the BKs are pretty much top of the line.

Yeah I'll agree with that. In the beginning they can be monstrous.

for a str build i would go with the msgs, its better in both ar and moveset.

They BK weapons are a very good option for PvE if you don't want to invest stats on a buff, since they already deal a ton of damage.

My favourite is the Halberd.

^As good as anything else in PvP too, in the right hands. I was cleaning up at Oolacile Township with my new msgs build, then I come up against a guy with the BKGs. First time I had him down to next-to-no health and he hit me for about 1,500 or my 1,700 hp. Red Tearstone.

Next 4 fights the guy cleaned my clock every time. Had me confounded. Just a guy with a super-strong sword that knew how to use its impressive reach, I guess.

I don't think the BKS is as impressive as the other BK weaps though, since it doesn't have their reach and is as slow or slower than them.

Yeah, the BKS is my least favourite of the set, it's just not as powerful as the others.

Stats schmats. Go with what you play with best! I've got swords that do 50 or so more damage than my Halberd +15, but I'm purty dern good at utilizing that things range and with the Leo ring it destroys.

On another build, I've got the Grant which delivers a whopping 700 something damage and is still Faith scaling at "A", but I'm way more effective with a 550 damage Divine Bastard Sword.

The best weapon is the one that you are best at using.

For damage and move set, I'm going to give it to the Large Club, its diagonal R1 will interrupt locked bs attempts with an almost certain stunlock. The one handed R2 is difficult to parry, and all the rolling attacks are worth while. Also, its the only weapon I've been able to rely on to deal 5-700 damage without a buff.

I agree that in the beginning it is monstruous, and this is probably the reason I've attached myself a lot to it. However I'm already at STR40 (SL64) and I'm afraid its not going to get much stronger.

I see that you mention the msgs, I had to look it up, I would have never considered the weapons from those guys at Sen's like viable, at least on the first impression they gave me. Interesting.

The MSGS is probably my favorite weapon to use for a str build. It gets high str scaling, has a pretty high AR, and isn't unbearably slow. Best weapon all comes down to personal preference though.

Thats the best idea there. But not only what your skilled at using moveset wise, but whats FUN for you. This is a game, yeah you want to win. But i enjoy losing plenty fine. I use Priscilla's dagger on one build. Because it's fun. I don't get alot of wins, but i enjoy the fight and my opponent does to. Not to discredit the claymore or the great scythe, but those get used alot. Now, if you enjoy them. Use them. But don't use them just because you think thats the best choice.

Get a weapon out, go play with it. Die. Die. Die. Get a kill or two. And just have fun. If you worry about whats "best" you'll never be satisfied.

But...a darkmoon blade washing pole is pretty lethal...

I like the Butcher's Knife for a Str build; though it doesn't hit as hard as the BKS, it has better stunlock and a better r2 moveset.

The Washing Pole is my third choice. I always have buy 3 of them. One Lightning, one Fire, one +15 (if possible).

Murakumo + 15 with a dex build is a beast...

The best weapon pre-patch was the MLGS. Since the stunlock nerf I would say that the DSS is the best weapon right now.
