    Demon souls and duping

Post by defacto on Fri Nov 09, 2012 9:47 pm

So I'm one of those nerds who basically started with dark souls then played demons souls. So i didn't get to enjoy the glory days of pvp.

But I just learned the duping glitch and realized how much of a godsend that had to be for pvp. I'm really glad I won't have to farm shards for eternity to try out all of the weapons.

So now that most people have moved on to Dark Souls be honest. How prevalent was duping and how many of you used it to make quick pvp characters?

I'm not sure if you already know this but... the duping glitch was removed from Dark Souls with the latest patch. To answer your question, I learned to dupe in the last two weeks prior to the patch. To be honest, I did it a lot, but not really for myself. I duped items like crazy - slabs, sunlight medals, souvenirs of reprisal, Humanity... I did this because I was actually really angry that From was going to remove the glitch, so I spent those last two weeks on a crusade to give as many players 98 of those items as possible.

On the other hand, I suspect that you might be talking about the Bottomless Box glitch to make a new character with all your previous gear. In that case, I did it three times to make the above situation possible.

I'm not sure if I was being clear but I'm talking about duping in demons souls.

    Sorry about that happy

Just curious, but why would you be mad at From for removing that glitch? It was not intended to happen in the game. In my opinion, it is far more rewarding to earn it legit than to glitch.

@defacto, I only realized that after the fact, but sort of just left my post the way it was because I needed to vent my frustration.

@AugustBlade, it's pretty simple really. I'm not frustrated because they took out the BB glitch. That was a pretty good idea actually, considering how people abused it. On the other hand, the duping glitch was perfectly innocent, except for in one case that I can think of. First off, the duping glitch required that you already have 100 of an item. I figure that if you had the dedication to get 100 of something, you pretty much deserve to have unlimited. Secondly, it was a great way to spread joy. A lot of players need slabs to upgrade weapons, and with the glitch I was able to just give it to them. Now, I can't because my supply is finite. I did mention earlier about one way that this glitch could be exploited at the expense of others. By duping Divine Blessings, a player could have unlimited of an item that could quickly be used in PvP to fully heal health and status effects. However, I don't feel that this one situation, in consideration of the good things about the glitch, makes the glitch a bad thing that needs to be removed.

I actually really like the glitch in demons souls, it literally just eliminates farming. While the bb glitch made you only have to find/upgrade items one time, then you never had to again(and you started the game with end game gear).

You still had to go and find everything you needed in demon's souls each playthrough, and i think a lot of the better items are a lot harder to get. You literally just don't have to make multiple farming trips, that is it, that is all it effects. I liked that. bb glitch though, that kind of ruined the game. I used it myself, but not until i had 100% the game and done a sl10 playthrough ext. I know/have heard of a lot of people who just bb glitched after getting not even half way through the game for the first time. Or being gifted elemental weapons right in the first area from a bb glitcher...

Ruined the game for me. I played DkS first, and for whatever reason I was able to refrain from the bbg for the most part, maybe because I'd played the game sooo long before I discovered it, but the DeS dupe glitch I found right away, and for whatever reason I can't NOT use it.

I think it's because the bbg you only had to avoid at character creation, but the DeS dupe temptation is constant, you can do it ANY time. Running low on grass? Need a couple more chunks to upgrade your weapon? Too easy, too convenient.

2,000+ hours on DkS and still going (with breaks, though), and about 100 hours of DeS despite REALLY wanting to play it. I curse the day I discovered that glitch.

If I remember correctly the dupe glitch in demons was discovered very late, long after the peak of online activity, so it didn't have a huge impact on the pvp scene.

    ^ Yeah that's true.

Although the phantom dropping dupe glitch was known early on.

I get what you are saying, but it's just something that would totally bother me. It's practically defeating the purpose and fun of the game, for me. Slabs, for instance, are intended to be an extremely rare item drop, and farming for it may seem boring to some, but when you do finally get it...ahhh. Just my opinion, of course.

bb glitch in DkS is the PEST for the game!

god - how i hate it....started to play DkS on PC and after some weeks and some cheater i bought the PS3 Version. What a mistake - 100% bb glitcher (that's what i call cheating!) upto now and minimum one cheater (completly invisible Summon in coop, not the Effect of RoF or the Spell - completly invisible) in the first week...this is much worser than on PC.

Well, when i asked for help at Capra on PC in the wiki chat a while ago, i got spammed with messages all PC Player are cheater and so on....don't through with stones, while sitting in a glasshouse....

Why not earning the Items you wan't to have? Duping Slabs...i can't believe that anyone could say, that is not cheating. And it is NOT OK to say, i am a sunbro i will use this only for protecting my host. I don't want to be protected by a cheater against a cheater!

just my 2 cent....and sorry i am a little bit upset, casue i spend money to get away from the cheater...only to seee, that it is much worse on PS3

Might not have been a cheater. There is a bug where sometimes a phantom is completely invisible and they aren't even aware of it. I was invaded in Anor Londo and had no idea where he was till I saw the animation after he popped a green blossom.

Turned out he had no idea he was invisible. He used no spells and no Fog Ring.

To an extent, I agree with you. For instance, I was recently farming the giant skeletons in the graveyard near Firelink Shrine for a Murakumo (not really that rare of a drop in my experience). It took about an hour of farming to drop, so I was pretty ecstatic when it did drop. So perhaps, you are right about the slabs. However, for an item such as Humanity, I feel that it is not so rare that one would find satisfaction in it finally dropping. If anything, the fact that so much time would have to be spent to farm 99 Humanity would be annoying. Of course, some would argue that this annoyance contributes to one's appreciation of the game. However, others (such as myself) might not feel that way.

I understand. Humanity is not as rare as slabs, of course. However, I must note that farming for White titanite Slabs(with 410 discovery), netted me over 50 humanity in two hours in the Pinwheel Servants area.

Regardless, it is a game, and what matters is what we enjoy about it. I toast to that.

I think you are rather being unfair and rather rude. You make it sound like everyone on PS3 is a cheater. I honestly have yet to run into a cheater on PS3 so I'm assuming you have some bad luck with PvP and keep getting them.

Also I have a low level character that I have beaten Dark Souls with at a low level with some good items. Would I be considered a cheater by you if I invaded you and you didn't know about this character? Again I feel you are jumping the gun and saying everyone is a cheater who has a low level, at least that's what your comment sounds like.

yeah its a little bit rude - sorry for that.
And i know that its possible without duping, or bb-glitching (got myself a low lvl char on PC with cool items).

BUT start a new char on PS3 and have a look for yourself. there is nearly no one in the low levels without endcontent items. Summons who kill the boss in under 3 secs :affraid: - Invader who kill me with one hit....in my Shield up for blocking. This is very bad luck not only a little bit bad luck.

I can play alone (fit enough for this to bring my char up to a region, where i have no problems with this guys) hollow. But i want't some Co-Op and PvP fun on the way. The problem is, when i call a Summon i just can watch, i can't help them. Cause they kill the boss in 3 sec and when an Invader comes i am only the prey with no chance, the Summon has to protect me - let me play with you, don't use your endcontent items in low lvl regions.

And sorry for all the guys who earned the itmes for themselve without bb-glitching or duping - but i think that the biggest part of the player, who have this items on low lvl haven't earned that items themselves, but glitched, or duped

FYI, Xbox is no different. If you go human in the Burg or Parish you're pretty much screwed. I do a lot of Burg co-op with my sl6, and in hundreds of hours of Burg co-op not 1 invader has been without endgame gear. One pyro guy had me fooled because he had all starter gear, but then I got lit up by his LIGHTNING hand axe, lol.

Fellow phantoms are the bigger problem to me. Like you said, they'll run through the area 1-shotting everything. Those are the guys that piss me off. They all say the same thing, "I'm here to help the host against invaders!" I always suggest they put away their op gear against the engine and only use it against the invaders, but I'm sure they never listen.

I use duping for ephemeral stones, so I can play online but still control WT as much as I want. Also I like to play as human at all times.

I use it for those and for crafting items.

It's so awesome to have a STR build and every STR weapon in the game at max level.
