Mysterious Sunbro

Right, so I was going for Quelaag first in my current playthrough, and figured I'd summon some backup. I found the white summon sign for someone decked out in Darkwraith gear by the bonfire, and I figured that would be enough along with Mildred.

Then, however, I get a message that I am being invaded....Buuuuut then a Sunbro called JollyCooperator, decked out in full Solaire gear, appears....As a friendly Sunbro phantom. I had never seen his summon sign, and he appeared out from Quelaags Domain rather than anywhere near me.

The creepiest part is that the person in question was listed as being offline for three hours. >.>

It's a bug, I think. Sometimes when I am in the forest invading/wearing my cat ring I get spit out onto the other side as a gold, a yellow - you name it.

It doesn't happen often but it does happen.

Are you playing on PC?

There is a bug that sometimes causes people to spawn as the wrong phantom type, but it's fairly rare. The odds of someone trying invade and 'by chance', getting summoned to help with the username of JollyCooperator seems very unlikely to me.

It's someone using a cheat engine to force co-op. You should absolutely use dsfix and enable automatic save backups if you haven't already, because these people can do bad things to the progress of your game. They can appear as a phantom for co-op but attack you at any moment and kill you (not THAT big a deal, just another version of cheating online)...

but worse, they can invade in places like Anor Londo, kill bosses for you (forcing you out of Darkmoon, plunging Anor Londo into darkness etc), kill blacksmiths, npcs, etc. If someone is forcing co-op I'd recommend quitting on them. Perhaps this particular guy isn't doing stuff like that, I don't know, but these players tend to grief others.

Yes, I am playing on PC. Thank you for the warning, retro. I'll get Dsfix now. This particular guy seemed decent enough; helped me with the boss, no fuzz. Might not be as lucky next time though.
