I see others do this, but I've always just fired the arrow, but with my limited supply need to know how to cancel. Someone enlighten me. Please. Thank u.

You can cancel by moving while having R1 pressed, don't release it, move and release it while your character is moving so he doesn't pull out another arrow.

you can also just put your bow away. You can't be zoomed in when you do it, so if you are hit the zoom button again, then just hit the direction button of the hand your bow is equipped in and your toon will put the bow away without releasing the arrow

Yeah what Plastic said. Oh and you can do the cancel I mentioned even when zooming in, but keep in mind in case a guy is approaching it's best to zoom out and put the bow away.
