I am going to leave the obvious joke alone. If you go from Firelink Shrine to New Londo Ruins (take immediate right after you come out of the stairwell) to Valley of Drakes (requires Master Key upon character creation or buying it) to Blighttown.

even though it's annoying it's worth going there for many characters, for the items you can find, such as the iaito (a really good katana), power within (an underrated pyromancy) eagle's shield, and the whip... ok so the whip is bad, but it's fun to use and you need it to plat.... so there....
