Host Etiquette question Empty Host Etiquette question

    Post by edgie_za Tue Oct 16, 2012 4:21 am

    Hey folks

Maybe an odd topic, but are there (unoffical) host etiquette guidelines?

Why I am asking is that I was playing Anor Londo, laid my sign by the bonfire before Smough/Ornstein boss (where Solaire sits during the main questline). Doing some soul farming and Twinkling titanite purchasing and then summoned. Entered hosts' session, along with another summon (we both sunbro).

We promptly run through the level, killing the mimics, opening the front door, and opening all the entrances and shortcuts, so basically, opening and clearing the level with the host. We finish the two Giant Sentinels before the boss battle, and the other summon and myself stand on the stairs before the boss battle, waiting for the host...

Who then promptly sends us home...

Which brings me to my question, is this good etiquette on the hosts' side? I would think not, as it means we as the summons loose out on humanity. And if the host wanted us clear the stage so he could PvP that is fine as long as he sends a messge explaining why he sent us home.

What is your take on this?

It's not exactly good manner, for a lack of better wording for it. But there could be any possibly reason to it. Perhaps the player in question had to go? Whatever the reason, he should've sent you a message, indeed. But that is kind of what to expect as well. See, as a summon you're offering your help. The host can then summon you for whatever reason the host pleases, whether it be ganking, clearing the area or finishing off bosses. Perhaps the player was doing a solo run but had a hard time doing the mobs? Either way, you should expect anything when you're summoned, cause the host makes the rules, like it or not. :|

He probably sent you home because you ran off without him and cleared the level. He didnt want you to clear the level, he wanted you to help him through it.

Did you by any chance send a message to the host afterwards very politely asking why you were sent home?

If so, that was me and if it was me it was a combination of what Dough said and I just wasn't doing O&S yet happy

Actually Doughboy, the other summon and myself were with him all the way, not at any point were we more than a few feet away from him, and we also let him lead us to where he wanted to go, hence clearing other sections of the level. So the reason that we ran away to clear the level without him doesn't really stand as we were with him througout.

Acutally should have done that, but didn't, was thinking about it though. :|

Was not peeved by it, just that I had never experienced that before. 99% of the times i have been summoned was to help clear a level, then tackle the boss. Have also been summoned to help with an invader, and even then i was not booted/sent home when the invader was vanquished.

And i make it a rule to to not run away from my host, as it is obvious they summon you to help then, be it PvP/Invading reasons or level clearing and boss slaying.

happy with that reason, but a quick message of "Thanks, just needed to the smith" would have cleared the confusion...

I always hate it when a host sends me home with no explanation. Very rude. A quick msg is enough, even if it's in a language I can't read. One guy messaged me like 20 minutes after sending me home once, "Sorry, baby was crying." Thought it was pretty nice of him to remember.

Why did someone down vote Dough? That was the first thing i thought, i hate when summons just speed through and suck every bit of fun out of everything. It is also possible that the host was using you to farm, or as you mentioned clear the level. I guess they could send you a message, but would that really make a difference?

I think it would. Imagine you asked someone to help clean your house. They come over, help you clean, wash your dishes, do your laundry, spring clean, and at the end of the day, you open your front door and show them to leave your place, without a mere "thank you". Sure you would not like it, would you?

I'll apologise for saying that actually, I missed the part where you said "with the host". It was just the way you said "Entered hosts' session, along with another summon (we both sunbro).

    We
    promptly run
through the level, killing the mimics, opening the front
door, and opening all the entrances and shortcuts, so basically, opening
    and clearing the level"
    and
"We finish the two Giant Sentinels before the boss battle, and the other
summon and myself stand on the stairs before the boss battle, waiting
    for the host
    ..."
That made it sound like you left the host behind, and it must've made me drift over the part other part

no issues dough, and know that it defs was not me who downrated you. Not sure why anyone would anyway since I have never seen any negative comments from anyone in this forum that would justify a down rating.

Once I was in Anor Londo with some helpers. I guy invades and drags us through the whole level. It was from the begining all the way to the fog door. When he was finaly killed, I had only one or two flask and no spells. Then we took out the titanite demon in the small room.

After that I sent a message that said, "Need to rest at fire. Will summon you again." They left. Unfortunatly I could only find one of them again.

Perhaps your host had to sit at the fire? He definitly should have sent a message.

Aaaaaaaaactually... Just rereading this i've had a thought.

The developers removed voice chat (Or at least tried to) from the game so... No. They shouldn't have sent you a message. No one should winking

    Interesting thought...

And maybe, the developers should have also made it so that you don't see the name of the person you are summoning, nor the name of your invader!!! U can still indict, but you don't know the name of who u r indicting... imagine that forum conversation "Damn that ganking, spamming, balder side sword wielding with pyro, balder helmet with havel armour and blood skirt, slim male who BS'ed me in the garden!!! Who is he!!!" :face:

Though I guess if that were to happen you would have far far fewer honourable battles..

The only problem with that would be that you can check ''recent players'' on XBL so it would still be possible to find out who it is.

I really hate it when the host just runs away and doesn't even check whether you are following him or not. I mean, just wait a damn minute, maybe I have to switch my gear or something.

hmm.. quite puzzled as to why you would want to change gear when u r summoned.

And an interesting question. As someone who is summoned do you prepare yourself to quest/co-op, or do you preapre yourself to help deal with invasions?
