There's no other way aside from trading. The ninja should have become hostile when you killed Shiva. Go to wherever you killed him and you may find the ninja there and hostile. If not try looking around. If you've quit and reloaded since this happened you may find that the ninja died somehow while you were fighting Shiva, meaning the ring may be laying around somewhere in the area. I've had this happen the other way around before. I killed the ninja in blighttown and came back down to find Shiva's pickups laying where he usually stands
