I'm not super familiar with the lore but I really want Ground Zeroes, and it's nice to be back in the shoes of Big Boss.

I like the franchise overall, but the solid series needs to come to its conclusion. After all, Kojima could take it in a whole new direction now, but everyone is up-in-arms demanding more of the same.

Metal... Gear?
All in all though, MGS3: Snake Eater is the superior game. MGS4 is nice, but it gets boring with all the farming for Drebin Points and such.
WARNING: Awesome ahead.

Re: MGS disscuion
Indeed, MGS3 is probably my favorite one.
I always liked the theory that MGS1 Twin Snakes, is like Snake explaining to Raiden what happened on Shadow Moses. Meaning all the insane cut scenes are just him embellishing the story to try and sound cool.

MGS3 is my favorite in the series and as a result of me playing it I have gained a mancrush for Big Boss. I like the Big Boss storyline a bit more so than Solid's. Ground Zeros looks promising, shiny new engine and all!

Anyone else notice in the Ground Zeroes trailer, the FOX emblem is backwards?

^It says in the trailer: out of FOX emerged two phantoms (paraphrasing!)--FOX and XOF.
But don't ask me about the MGS storyline, I don't know it so well! I played 1 through 4, but I didn't really keep track of all the characters and events. And it doesn't help that I haven't played the original Metal Gear games, which makes it harder to know all the background info... I think I'll download that MGS app from the PSN Store and brush up on my lore before Ground Zeroes hits! Oh, and I need to play Peace Walker, too...

Yeah, the appeal of the first 3 Splinter Cells was that Sam was just this old grizzled badass, now he has Benjamin Button disease I guess :l.

Re: MGS disscuion
If y'all haven't had the chance yet to play Peace Walker, I'd highly suggest it. In fact, the HD collection is a freaking steal. I've been a huge fan of the series since MGS1.
That being said, would it have been so hard to throw twin snakes on there?
I digress. Peace Walker really blew me away, and it's been my go-to game until I discovered Dark Souls. Ground Zeroes seems to take place after Peace Walker, so if you're a sucker for the series' convoluted lore (like me) you'd benefit from giving it a shot.

Word. I've stuck it out with Raiden since I was in high school. I'm willing to give this one a shot. It couldn't be any worse than the onslaught of Final Fantasy 7 spin-offs.

I just think the new direction with Raiden may be something the series needs, y'know?

Re: MGS disscuion
I think Raiden was a good idea, just poorly implemented. At least in regards that he just doesn't appeal to people like me. I'm fine with not playing as snake, but I don't really like the art style of him or his story.
I've always wanted Peacewalker but I don't have a PSP, I've been considering buying the HD collection just for that, plus I wouldn't mind having more copies of the games. Even if I didn't like Raiden, I still did enjoy MGS2.

Re: MGS disscuion
It's funny, because I have a PSP, but don't really want to play PW on it... (my PSP is my DisgaeaStation Portable, really!) but if Konami had just ported it to Vita, then I'd have bought it right away--along with a Vita, since I don't own one! Have to admit I'm really displeased with how they handled the collections--NO MGS1 included, no PW on Vita, etc. Poor decisions were made across the board, in my opinion, which is why I haven't bought the collections.
As for Raiden, I never disliked him. But to be honest MGS2 is by far my least liked of the series. The story was just ridiculous, and I disliked the setting. I'm also looking forward to Rising, and very much to Ground Zeroes.

Re: MGS disscuion
My favorite is MGS1 by far, when it comes to story, boss fights, and characters it really can't be beat in my opinion. Then MGS3, and MGS 2&4 are tied for 3rd place. I have the HD collection, but can't get into peacewalker, im actually somewhat surprised it is held in such high regard. It just doesn't feel all that much like a metal gear game, and i hate that EVERY boss is a robot/mech. Well i can't say every, cause i haven't beaten it. It seems that way though, and i really dislike that. I do want to finish it though, especially since i will need to know the story for ground zeros.
I'm actually really looking forward to Metal Gear revengence too, metal gear and platinum games Hell Yea!

I never played MGS1 but i would always go to my cousins house every weekend and watch him play. Played MGS2 and enjoyed it but MGS3 is my all time favorite game. So much worked for that game; the story, boss battles, environment. And i'm not ashamed to admit i teared up at the end of the game.

Re: MGS disscuion
MGS 3 has a really sad ending I was sad when I killed the Boss and even more sad when I learned the truth also I think that ground zero will be about the legacy unless they covered that in peace walker
