Coop and Gear Empty Coop and Gear

    Post by IV_Mark_VI Mon Aug 20, 2012 11:00 am

    Small rant.

A lot of times, I see a new host to the game summon some phantoms, and then they just blast through the level, running ahead with a lightning +5/Chaos+5 BB glitched weapon, killing everything.

I don't see how this is fun for the host. How is it different then opening up a console window and typing /godmode /infiniteammo?

Also, they show all the secrets, or dropping a super powerful weapon on them.

    I want to know:
    1) Is this fun for any host? Is there any host out there that wants this...? I'm specifically referring to a first or second playthrough, not when you're just trying to actively blast through a level.
    2) Do people realize they may be spoiling the hosts fun? Sure, there's the argument that the host doesn't need to use the weapon, but if they're new and stuck (dark souls will make you stuck the first times through) they're very likely to pull out that weapon and go to town.

When I coop, I try to keep a mediocre weapon, appropriate for the level I'm cooping in. So for parish/gargoyle fight, a +3 or +4 weapon. Depths, +5, or +6. Blight town, +6. And so on. Same with armour. Doesn't feel fun if I'm just totally overpowered for an area, sucks the life out of the game.

I know a lot of people will disagree, because I see a ton of people on XBox live with gear not appropriate for the area they're in. People invading in the parish with DWGR and end game armour and such.

I feel somewhat the same. However, recently I have been working on my sunbro level and more often than not I fnd my host invaded with a ganker in high level gear. Once it happens a few times in a night I switch gear to even the playing field. :x

My simple trick with co-op is to just keep an anti-griefer weapon, so you can deal with the powerful geared invaders, other than that just use whatever is for the area and level.

It is frustrating to see I know, because it does ruin the experience for players. Similar to paying for a movie and just reading a review of the ending they miss what the game is completely about and never really see what it is. I can understand if you've played Dark Souls tons of times, by runthrough 100 you might want to just kill everything quickly but frankly you should be able to do that solo and without a summon if you've played that much.

I do regular Burg co-op with my sl 6, and more than half the time either the host or another phantom are running around with lightning weapons or something.

I never bother with griefers, but I almost always send a msg to my fellow phantoms asking them to stop using op weaps vs the engine. I tell them it ruins the game. I've gotten all manner of reply back, lots of times it's, "I'M ON NG+ NOOB!" or something, to which I reply that if they're so good they shouldn't require a maxed out Fire Claymore to kill a hollow archer, but many times it's a guy who says he is there to protect the host from griefers. Him I tell that I use a +0 weapon (all you should have in the Burg) and switch to a +5 Chaos Rapier IF the host gets invaded. I doubt I've changed any minds, but you never know.

Wait...WHHHUUUUUT? It's bad to have someone who is stronger and more capable help with the level? Are you guys seriously complaining about co-op outside of summons(...and how broken it is)?

It's one of the only complaints you'll ever see me make here. If you don't get how running a host through the Undead Burg with your Lightning Claymore SUCKS, or how giving them the Lightning Claymore SUCKS even more, then maybe someone else here can explain it to you.

*edit* unless you're just kidding, in which case... I don't get it.
