Hardest Starting class for a low level run? Empty Hardest Starting class for a low level run?

    Post by IV_Mark_VI Mon Sep 17, 2012 1:06 pm

Multiple choice poll, in case you think 2 or 3 classes are really hard to beat a low level run.

This is a run where you can't level up, but is otherwise open-ended. No need to stick with the starting gear.

I think the Cleric is the toughest. 1 slot, 9 endurance, and 14 faith doesn't let you use much. Sorceror would probably be next hardest I think, but with 3 slots and pushing pyromancy, gives a lot of damage potential. Just low HP and stamina.

What do you guys think? What's the hardest starting class for a low level run?

Base SL and gear I would say Deprived... Otherwise it is probably bandit, as you don't have options for weapons due to the low dex.

For an experienced player I'd call Sorcerer the easiest because of the 3 slots and the ability to use Hidden Body. Not sure what might make one of the others harder than the rest. I'll think about it a little.

Not Base Gear Amos; Bandit I thought would be strong due to the 12 VIT, 14 END. Thats a lot of extra gear options, and a longer endurance bar. Only weapon it lets you use though is the Pickaxe... hm. The stat trade off might be worth it with the pyromancer though; I could deal without any spells.

Edit: also the 14 str would let you use the silver knight shield, which would be awesome.

Oh and Amos, it says open ended; just can't level up. So the deprived isn't stuck with a club. I think the deprived wouldn't be bad; enough stats to cast a spell, and enough stats to wield a variety of weapons, including the lightning spear out of sen's fortress.

I personally think that the Bandit is the best class for a low(base) level run .

The Hunter is pretty much the Bandit just with 14 Dex so this ones good too .

Cleric is the worst . 9 Endurence settles it . Endurence is the most important Stat in my Opinion .

I was kind of torn between the Deprived and the Cleric. You're definitely right about the limitations of the Cleric....but that heal spell is hard to ignore. I think the Cleric would be easier through mid-game, but maybe the extra weapon variety for the Deprived would help later. Still...everything is 11. I don't know. A toss up, I guess.

Edit: I voted Deprived. I guess for me, the difference between a lightning Shortsword and a lightning Longsword isn't enough of a gap to throw away a heal spell.

Bandit, anything that can't use magic has a disadvantage in this, and the low DEX of the Bandit makes it most limited in abilities.

Knight is pretty low too, it lacks the stats to do any magic except 1 pyro, and even then, a single pyro spell adds a lot of power and utility to a character.

i would go with cleric, heal is not gonna help you against bosses. bandit is a good starting class, the battle axe when elemental hits really hard and the low dex doesnt matter anyway unless you wanna use a bow but you have the crossbow anyway.

It really depends on what you rely on, some people may say sorcerer or cleric. If you use a lot of spells/pyro though then being a warrior or hunter might be really hard. Overall i think they are all about the same, it really just depends a lot on personal preference and how you plan on going about it. Hard to pick one really, for me i guess i would probably say theif. Just cause it has a lot of wasted stats. Not sure though, i voted theif but cleric is very close if not tied.

Edit: the more i think about it, i have to say cleric despite the fact i already voted thief. Dex just makes thief better then cleric. Could have sworn cleric has 12 att, i was wrong. EDIT EDIT: lol! Actually bandit, no att and not enough dex to use a bow. cant even use claymore/bastard sword. Wow i really have never thought about that, bandit with out a doubt. Sorry for my confusion haha

best bandit build i could think of lol, this is going by PTD rules. http://tinyurl.com/9qqcbb6 not impossible, but probably the hardest out of all of them i got to admit.

It seems that the common denominator coming through all of this is, at low low levels, people want options. A bit of weaponry, decent equip load, some attunement. I think I can see why you picked the Bandit, Fruitninja...he basically has to bludgeon everything to death. But you're right...to each his/her own...some people might say, gimme that axe and get outta my way. Me, I don't know if I could do it without more variety.

I dunno, the silver knight shield has some crazy stability. Might be worth it just for that.

That's it. I'm doing a bandit run. I personally think it wont' be that difficult, but we'll see. I think the 14 END is a huge bonus, as well as the SKS.

I would use the FaP ring likely, as well as either havels w. Med. Roll or DWGR.

Ok, so the bandit can use Reinforced Club, have a heater shield, and wear full giants with Havels and FaP ring. That sounds pretty damn good to me.

lol...funny, all this discussion of starting levels that I've had in the last few weeks makes me want to try different ones as well.

EDIT: I just looked at the Bandit's options for starting level gear, and there's not a lot of variety there. Having only 10 in dex REALLY limits options. Not to say is can't be done, but it would be pretty one-dimensional.

I'm actually surprised i never thought about how bad Bandit was for low level runs either, the end and vit does make up for some things but really it isn't enough.

Oh and backlot its only 9 dex not 10, meaning even less weapons available. Mainly you can't even use a claymore or bastard sword, which would be one of the major advantages of going bandit. Besides just a few areas, it doesn't really matter what you pick. Being a bandit at starting level and trying to do the anor londo archers could be a *****, more so the lightning spear demons. Having a weapon with **** range just sucks against them.

I'd say the Hunter is the hardest to start with. Limited ammunition and not many good stats.

I'm surprised that some people think that Sorcerer is a challenging class to play for low level runs. Soul Spears are very effective and the three attunement slots give a Sorcerer a lot more options than some of the other classes.

Meh, I'm a very bored man and have done runs on most starting classes. The only exception to it is the warrior and pyromancer.

To be honest I never really had much trouble with the deprived or thief run. Actually hunter seemed to be a bit more of a ***** for me to get through than any of the other classes. I don't know why, but archery in that game is so difficult for me.

Since it's an open ended challenge with no limitations, it's a difficult poll. All classes have methods for destroying the game, some just have it easier than others. Generally any class with an att slot will have an advantage over those that don't due to the use of power within. Even a crappy weapon can turn into a god slayer with that spell.

Deprived is definitely not the weakest. They have wasted stats, but also have a very good balance allowing a wide range of items. You can attune power within, grab a lightning claymore 2h, put a grass crest shield on your back and just rip things apart. Of course in the PTD version Claymore's have been nerfed, but nonetheless the 11 dex and str offers a wide range of weapon options.

Cleric isn't the greatest, but again the att slot gives them an advantage. The morning star or clubs aren't bad weapons, especially at +5 lightning or +10 fire combined with PW.

Of the melee only classes, Hunters are the best. 12/14 st/dex is the best you can start with and offer the most flexibility. Average end/vit doesn't hurt either. You get a bow from the start which can get you through new londo right away and let you pick up the very large ember from the start. Along with the ability to use the claymore, the hunter is one of only two classes that can wield the Uchi at base level.

Bandit has issues with dex, but they can use some of the heavier str only weapons. Not a lot of people probably use it, but the giant blacksmith hammer is no joke. It only requires twinkling titanite to upgrade so you don't even have to grab any embers and that weapon fully upgraded is plenty to tackle the game with.

I'd say Bandit, but not by much. With proper use of the Darkmoon seance ring you can still use power within. Just equip it, attune the spell and then cast it at each boss fog. Once you active PW you can just unequip it and equip another ring and lose nothing in the process.

Interesting. For my playstyle, I would have assumed Bandit was easiest. I did a cleric run and their stats were so damn low... the one att slot was not enough to make up for it.

And good call with the Seance Ring! Filing that away for future reference. That one spell slot doesn't open any spells I feel I need. Power within is great, and Flash Sweat can come in handy, but that's about it.

I guess Great combustion can be really good too, but just using a lightning weapon can tear anything apart, and with the higher END and access to better shields, the Bandit ranks higher for my playstyle.
