My first try at a pure caster

Post by Serious_Much on Tue Sep 04, 2012 1:32 pm

    Hey guys, thought I'd give a pure caster a try since i've never done one before, and I reckon it would be pretty fun. I've got an enchanted broadsword on there in case the **** hits the fan. Here's the build;

Any thoughts, or recommended changes are appreciated, thanks guys happy

Don't know if Fire Whip is fast enough with low Dex, so I would lower Att to 23. Falchion will work great.

you think 8 spells is too excessive? to be fair i'm leaving room for the dlc when new spells come out.. a level 100 version i'm considering looks like this if i wanted one for the arena, though dunno how that would work if spells aren't replenished between fights lol

i'm gonna stay with the broadsword to be honest, not many people use it and seems like more suitable weapon as backup to the caster, dunno why probably because the nature of the weapon itself and moveset is more basic in terms of how it looks and technique of swing.

2 GC are way too much. 1 is always enough for me, I would use that Att for Chameleon or HCSM.

yeah i didn't know what to put in the spell slots really wyrm, i'm just planning the build right now.. I'll be collecting every last useful spell while creating him anyway so i can test out.

I'm more concerned about the build itself lol, whether there's anything drastic i should change.

Throw some chameleon in the mix its damn nice to mindfuck with people and mess up their strategy.
Do a chameleom+css combo alot of people dont see that comming.
Or chameleon+parry that one is also pretty sweet.

currently using that build atm and I'm having so much fun. I sometimes swap out hidden body for aura decoy.

Speaking of drastic! Are you sure you want all 3 spell types? I respect the idea, but I think it would become counter-productive. With 3 spell types, you'll need to swap back and forth between 3 casting weapons and coincide them with juggling your spells, which could become tedious and could slow you down. Even if that's not a problem, though, I think it's just redundant. WoG and Great Combustion are both great spells at melee range--they're arguably as effective. Is it really necessary to have them both on the same toon?

Instead, I'd focus on 2 types out of the 3. It would make your build more streamlined, cut out a few options sure, but I think it would make it more efficient and lethal. I would suggest making your build sorc/ pyro only, because they complement each other very well, and cutting out Fth would allow you to spend more points in other stats to strengthen your build.

But... if you're dead-set on having all 3, I've got a constructive suggestion for you: ditch the sword, and stick another talisman or pyro glove in its place. The idea is that you use it to confuse your enemy; he might've noticed you swap between your talisman and flame in your left hand, and started to expect which spells you'll be casting when either one is out. When your opponent can anticipate your actions, they can fight you more effectively. So if you also have a talisman or glove in your right hand, at any time you can dual wield every combination of all 3 casting weapons--seriously mess with your opponent. Think about it!

i dunno, i just like the idea of having all 3 magic types on one build, being able to have gmb, wog, css, gc, tempest all on one build is rather appealing. I'm aware it'll probably cause me problems to begin with, but i think the potency of having the versatility of all 3 magic types is too much for me to resit :affraid:

i will consider the 2nd talisamn/pyro glove thing though, to be honest i have the broadsword in for if i run out of casts.. though i suppose if i run out of casts my build's really done for anyway and i deserve to die haha. i'm not sure whether i need much more to confuse my opponent than being able to use 3 magic types, but then again it's something i'll consider once i get to test it out in the field

I like that build, but i think i'll stick with the 25 end version, after all i wanna have plenty of rolling ability and have a bit of poise, i'm not so good that i can throw away all my poise really silly

What, 9 poise not enough for you? silly

8 End, if I remember right, gives you 4 rolls--more than any self-respecting caster should ever need before casting. Once you cast, you'll have regained your entire stamina already. WoG and GC should be especially nice to get you some breathing room, should you need it. Plus, it's got a lot more HP, so you can take a few hits and roll out (or toggle-out). So the lack of poise or stamina shouldn't be an issue; the extra HP, on the other hand, will be nice when you inevitably get backstabbed. winking

my only problem with that lol is getting through the pve being able to only swing my sword twice, and then if in pvp i do end up deciding to use a weapon too i'll be pretty stuck silly

the extra hp does look rather delicious though lol!

looking at it, i think a compromise works best for me, 8 spell slots like i initially planned with 15 end, which gives me same stamina as my original planned build, but i have more hp whilst only having 12 poise

That does look like a good compromise.

Just thought of something cool to add: you can start your duels dual-wielding the pyro flames. Your opponent will be like: "what's he doing? Fool!" thinking you're doing it for the looks... then you swap out to your talisman and catalyst during the fight and he'll be shocked and awed!

Don;t forget Serious, you can always drop pyromancy and just focues on the 2 main magics. So whether or not you make the build to utilise 2 or all 3 types you can use all 3 types. Try both methods out and if you find all 3 too confusing you can always drop it but keep the toon.
