The great scythe

What are your thoughts on this weapon? I love it, the dead angle with the 2h r2/rt which also looks badass. But there are some things i dont like/cant understand.
It has an awesome moveset, exept the standart 1h/2h r1/rt.

It has bleed, but it hits so slow and to hard to get an advantage of the effect! In pve i dont even manage to get bleed on stray demon! Bleed is only viable on this weapon if you have a bandit knife equiped...

Poise break. If you fight a pyromancer with wolf ring, you have a bad time! I cant understand, that such a powerful and great weapon have the 31 poise cap Oo

I love my scythe but is it only the power and moveset, which makes it so good/popular?

I used it exclusively up until now and I love it. As for the poide break Ive found consecutive two handed R2's will break poise pretty easily.

Also the leaping one handed attack is the perfect finisher for all DWGR users and they never quite seem to roll out of its arc and always get dead angled by it!

Edit: however my current Dex build doesnt have the Strength to use it so.... im plain out of luck

It's also one of the most annoying non spear weapons a spear user can face IMO. It has good range, good damage and can kill a turtle with dead angles.

Differing opinion inbound.
I think its pretty awful against most experienced players since its moves telegraph and can be easily dodged. as long as you dont attempt to use a shield you can rely solely on dodging and punish the whiff if it does not even get a phantom hit. its a decent weapon I suppose but I would not use it for personal preference.

Yea like i said i like it a lot. But i dont see any advantage of the bleed effect and the poise break is aweful! 31 for 2-handed its like a katana! It should be 41 or something ...

yea i only use it when my RTSR is active and the guy starts to turtle

If using to farm grass, awesome.

If using as a weapon in combat, it should be crappy. No one uses this weapon. Only peasants, and they were whooped, over and over. Shouldn't be in this game to begin with. Or, to put it another way, if you are going to put it in, put in a Hoe, and a Shovel, and a rake for leaves, and they should all be joke weapons and really suck.

They got whooped because they were untrained pheasants not because they had a scythe. Give a scythe to chuck Norris and watch the world burn

Done and done. They used a farm implement, I whooped them with an actual weapon.

It is really powerful. Especially if you learn to insta run. But, it is prone to BSing.

i often read that the g. scythe is one of the best dex weapons :/
but the normal r1 is one of the worst attacks you can use ...

Maybe because you should't use the normal r1 .
It's the running attacks and the r2 that are awesome, both 1h and 2h.

Great Scythe is used quite a bit. I still hate it. I have tried it and it was effective, but I couldn't stand running around with that thing. Looks stupid.

Aye, I've always felt its r1s and r2s where flipped. As well, the dead angles through most people in the burg off, and in dark londo, he who can fight locked off wins

As for IRL, this isn't the right scythe. The blade was raised up 90 degrees, to create a makeshift glaive. It was effective against mounted cavalries and on foot, and could easily split helms. Best of all you since they were just repurposed instead of freshly made, it meant that they could be quickly made.

Yup. Would love a repurposed scythe, or a war scythe. I am well aware of those weapons and how the Roman's adapted their armour specifically to fight them.

i prefer the lifehunt personally. it hits harder, and i mostly just use the run r1 anyways.

At 40 dex, the difference is minimal. The GS is buffable while the lifehunt isn't.
and the biggest difference is the range. The scythe can hit outside of a GS or UGS range, but the lifehunt is shorter than a GS.

hmm i stick with the great scythe and ill try to master it!
With 45 dex the difference between the GS and the lifehunt is about 10 AR which is nothing

unless they decide to wait out your buff, then it's the same.

the gscythe wont insta kill someone proccing a backstab bleed either.

and i prefer the higher damage. i won't hit them outside of their range, i'll just roll behind them during their swing and kill them with a backstab +possible bleedout.

i like the lifehunt more.

Easy to parry.
