Narrow Halls at the entrace where a determined force or archers and spearmen would hold out for days, a lift that is required to be taken if we are to assault the main concourse, an open archive with two levels which more crossbowmen could decimate us with concentrated fire, then finally we get the advantage assaulting a low open concourse from two levels!
Just use a 2nd attack from the crystal cave by Seath's Sorcerers as a convinient way to divert attention from the front entrance.
No one wants a bunch of golems directly outside their living room.
